As Ontario prepares for a province wide lockdown December 26th, physiotherapists and massage therapists remain an essential service. As such, KW Pelvic Health will remain open for in-person and virtual appointments adhering to guidelines laid out by the Ministry of Health, the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario and the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario. We thank our clients that have continued to support us through this time. Enjoy this holiday season and we look forward to helping you in the new year!

Adductor progression... This simple exercise gets the adductor (inner thigh) muscles firing. Although not super functional, it’s a nice start to finding and engaging these muscles. Try 3 sets of 10 per side and see how it goes!

What is a pelvic organ prolapse??? It's a decent of the bladder, uterus and/or colon. A good analogy is your pelvis is a balloon. The pelvic organ decends into the pelvic space like a hand pushing on a balloon. There are various degrees and symptoms can also be different from person to person. Some things to try:... Exhaling air out when your lift Changing your posture so that you can feel your pelvic floor engage Addressing muscle imblances of the hips, pelvis and core Engaging in physical activity that is appropriate for YOU Addressing any stress (or stressors!) that might be affecting your deep core (and this can go beyond the physical) Managing your low back pain Seeking the help and guidance of a pelvic floor physio. Treatment isn't a one size fits all and there are MANY factors that can contribute to symptoms: physical, psychological, social, etc. Questions?? Comments??? Send me a DM or leave a comment below See more

Almost forgot to post this...I was busy ALL day sitting on my a** watching the PTO championships. p.s it was awesome and inspiring and so nice to see Paula Findlay win the women’s race (and made it look easy!) and fellow Lionel Sanders place 4th in the men’s race(looked....not as easy ). Anyway, here’s the first of a series of progressions to strengthen the adductors. These muscle are along the inner thigh and help bring the leg in and also support the pelvis. Parts ...attach pretty close to the pubic symphysis and can be contributors to pubic symphysis pain (PGP). In this first version, I’m gently contracting the muscles and stopping right on the verge of pain/symptoms. You’ll should also feel the pelvic floor and lower abdomen engage as you bring the thighs together and relax as you let the legs move apart. Try a set of 10 working up to a 3-5 second hold. Questions??? Drop a comment or send me a DM!

This exercise is still a favourite of mine in the clinic. It’s a great progression once someone has found their deep core. It’s: It’s easy to do- no equipment! It incorporates opposite glute med and adductor (side butt and inner thigh) which is a functional pattern for all sorts of activities Side-lying is a nice position to start making deep core more challenging as it puts less pressure on the abdominal wall, pelvic floor and pelvic organs... then standing or lying on your back You don’t need too many! 10 per side should do it Give it a try and let me know how it goes!!

If urinary frequency is something that is bothering you, don't suffer in silence. Reach out and let us help you on your health journey! See more
