Kylies LemonAid Stand 13.11.2020

Putting the FUN in FUNdraising! This semester our Recreation and Leisure Students are putting their knowledge into action while planning a variety of fabulous fundraisers to support local not for profit organizations. 5 teams, 5 organizations and $5000.00 is our goal. The organizations that we will be supporting this semester are Super Sophia’s Love Box, The Firehouse Youth Center/ John Howard Society, Operation Christmas Child, Sick Kids Foundation and the Humane Society. ...The first fundraising event to take place will be Kylie’s Lemon-aid Stand which will be set up at the upcoming David Stewart Tip off Tournament on DC campus October 14-15th. This fundraising team was inspired by two ambitious and generous young ladies from the Durham Region, Kylie and Sophia. After suffering a badly broken arm, Kylie spent some time at Sick Kids’ hospital. Rather than focusing on her own troubles, Kylie became keenly aware of the many other young children getting treatments in hospital. Concerned for the well being and happiness of other children, Kylie decided she wanted to provide toys and other fun surprises to lift their spirits. She began her local lemonade stand about six years ago when she was only six years old. Over the years Kylie’s Lemon-aid Stand has raised over $17000.00 which has been used to buy toys for little boys and girls who are hospitalized. One of the children who may have benefited from Kylie’s donations is Sophia. When you see Sophia’s beautiful smile framed by her rich brown curls it might be hard to believe that when she was only 2 years old she was diagnosed with cancer. Sophia spent a lot of time in the hospital receiving treatments throughout her brave battle. Thanks to those life saving treatments, today Sophia is a bright and cheerful young lady who also wants to give back. Last year Super Sophia, as she is lovingly called, made it a goal to fill 100 boxes that she named Love Boxes, full of toys and gifts for children who were spending the holidays in hospital. After reaching out to family and friends, she more than exceeded that goal by filling and distributing over 1100 boxes to local hospitals. This year her goal is to fill and distribute 2000 boxes. Our fundraising team will join forces with both of these amazing young ladies to provide hope and cheer to many young children this Christmas. Working directly with Kylie’s Lemonade stand, they will be distributing lemonade and cotton candy while collecting cash donations. All of the donations received will be used to buy new toys and other gifts. Our whole class will then work together to pack 25 Love Boxes which will be distributed to the children in local hospitals by the Super Sophia project. If you plan to attend the David Stewart Tip Off tournament on October 14-15 be sure to drop by, say hello and enjoy a cold lemonade. If you will not be there but would like to make a donation to this fundraiser please contact [email protected]. See more
