She is currently exploring the complexity and uncertainty of navigating through representation in painted form as a person of Latin American descent given the ...persistence of colonial power structures. Her research project utilizes scholarly work in Decolonial Studies, Latin American Studies and Art History. She is also turning to art historical references, for example, the Casta Painting genre, to investigate the problematic role of portrait/figure painting in the colonial endeavour. denirée isabel as of late has been exploring the five senses as a means for connection and understanding. Currently, she is gathering stories and memories from those of the Venezuelan diaspora, investigating their relationship to the senses.
