Lac La Biche County offers a variety of services for residents to dispose of waste and recyclable materials. The County also seeks ways to minimize waste volumes and encourages community members to reduce, reuse and recycle. Did you know? We offer a Community Organics Recycling Enhancement (CORE) Program. With composting, organic waste like food leftovers can be turned into nutrient-rich fertilizer. Interested community members can purchase composters at the County Centre office (13422 Highway 881) for $72 each, plus GST. Green Cones, also known as solar food digestors, are also available for purchase for $116, plus GST. Find out more: https://www.laclabichecounty.com/our-servi/waste-management

We’d like to update residents on the progress of the outdoor sports field project at the Bold Center. This multi-year project is broken into three phases. Phase one was the completion of the artificial turf field and rubberized track. The artificial turf field is now available to rent, and track line painting will be completed next month. Phase two involves building three ball diamonds and a natural turf field. Most work was finished in 2020, but laying sod and shale will be ...completed this spring. Council also directed Administration to bring forward the budget impact to accommodate 90-foot base runs to meet Baseball Canada Standards to ensure that a diamond can work for U18 baseball, before installing sod and shale. This may impact the project’s final timeline, but weather-permitting the fields should be ready this summer. Phase three of the project includes change rooms, washrooms, bleachers, security fencing, a score board, an LED screen, utilities, a storm water system, throwing events area, maintenance building, and high jump area. Some of this work will be completed in 2021, but other items in phase three are earmarked for future development (like a playground, shelter, scoreboards at the ball diamonds, etc.). We know that the community is excited to take advantage of the new recreation opportunities that these facilities will bring, and we’ll keep you updated as the project hits major milestones. In the meantime, we suggest that you rent the artificial turf (in accordance with Alberta Health Services’ restrictions) if you’re looking for a sneak peek of the future of recreation in Lac La Biche County. More information on that will be posted later today.
