2019 Year in Review: In June, the Walk for Common Ground passed through Lacombe with a goal to bridge a gap in understanding between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples A 15-day, 350-kilometre journey that began on May 31, it was aimed at educating people about treaties signed between what they refer to as settlers and First Nations in 1876 and 1877, and what they mean to First Nations, all in effort to find a way to move forward together on Indigenous issues. There is a l...ot of hope things will change, said Diana Steinhauer, a member of Saddle Lake Cree Nation in Treaty 6 territory and one of the core walkers. I would say the fact people are walking and talking and getting to understand the issues, realizing different points of view caused them to see things from a different lens. It just means we need to go deeper until we can get to a place of common understanding and to me, that’s what this walk is about. https://www.lacombeglobe.com//walk-for-common-ground-passe

2019 Year in Review: In June, the Lacombe Airport is designated as a regional facility. It’s a very big day. We’ve got more than just a new name here we’ve got a taxiway developed last fall that is now allowing for new hangar construction to begin in the spring that’s going to give us a chance for sustained growth at the airport, said Lacombe Flying Club President Jon Fromm. I’m sure we’re going to be here for another few years. https://www.lacombeglobe.com//lacombe-airport-officially-d

2019 Year in Review: In May, Len Thompson Fishing Lures unveils the "World's Largest Lure," - a scaled up version of their yellow and red Five of Diamonds featuring a 14-foot tall hook and a 28.5-foot tall spoon. Together they’ll form a 40-foot long monument, weighing almost 2,600 lbs, set to become the world’s largest, commemorating the company’s 90-year history, and acting as a community symbol for years to come. Brad Pallister, the great grandson of Len Thompson who fir...st invented the hook that started the business, as well as the co-owner and general manager of Thompson-Pallister Bait Co. called it an exciting day for not only his family and company, but the industry and community. The last four years have been incredibly challenging for our business and our industry has had quite the struggle. As we were recovering from these four years of challenge, we thought let’s celebrate. Let’s do something big, he said. For us, the family heritage and history is really important and to be able to solidify it in a monument that obtains world’s largest status is pretty cool. https://www.lacombeglobe.com//worlds-largest-lure-hooks-at In June, it would be officially installed and unveiled to the public. https://www.lacombeglobe.com//giant-five-of-diamonds-lures

2019 Year in Review: In May, the City of Lacombe trashes residential recycling pickup as a result of a 66 per cent increase in costs, along with a reduction in items to be picked up. I want people to appreciate the fact we’re not turning our backs on recycling, said Mayor Grant Creasey. We’re merely at a time where we feel it necessary to come up with better solutions and spend taxpayers money so they receive better bang for their buck.... https://www.lacombeglobe.com//lacombe-trashes-curbside-rec
