When we can’t sing, we cook! Last year, during our first COVID-19 lockdown, we spent many Thursday evenings cooking (and drinking wine) together on Zoom - it was a wonderful way to stay connected during those early and unsettled pandemic days. This time around, we’re rehearsing online - but we haven’t given up on the cooking! Last week, our good friend Michelle Doyle shared a delicious Mediterranean dish and this evening, our friends in Finland, Essi Wuorela and Jennifer Moir guided us through a couple of traditional Finnish dishes! A few other choir friends stopped by for a virtual visit too... how lucky we all are for our incredible choir community! #LockdownLife #Choir&Cooking
We’re in another phase of COVID-19 lock-down here in St. John’s, NL everything other than essential services are shut down and mass gatherings are prohibited. But now, more than ever, we cherish the opportunity to connect, even if it has to be virtually! Making space, even just one hour a week, for ourselves and for each other is so important for our hearts and souls that are being tested in so many ways right now. Our sisterhood may be challenged by adversity, but it is also strengthened by it. Today, of all days, is a perfect day to remind ourselves of that. Happy International Women’s Day! #IWD2021

In 1982, on Valentine's Day, a winter storm raged. In the middle of the North Atlantic, the Ocean Ranger, an offshore drilling rig, was pounded by blinding wind and seas more than 20 metres high. In the late evening of February 14th and early morning of the 15th, the rig capsized... all 84 men onboard were lost. On this day in NL, we remember this tragedy. Atlantic Blue was written by Ron Hynes, one of NL's most prolific and best-loved songwriters - it is sung from the perspe...ctive of the women left behind. We've sung an arrangement of this song - and it captivates the hearts of our audiences every time we do. <3 What colour is a heartache from a love lost at sea? What shade of memory never fades but lingers to eternity? And how dark is the light of day that sleepless eyes of mine survey? Is that you, Atlantic Blue? My heart is as cold as you. How is one heart chosen to never lie at peace? How many moments remain? Is there not one sweet release? And who's the stranger at my door, to haunt my dreams forever more? Is that you, Atlantic Blue? My heart is as cold as you. I lie awake in the morning, as waves wash on the sand, I hold my hurt at bay, I hold the lives of his children in my hands. And whose plea will receive no answer? Whose cry is lost upon the wind? Who's the voice so familiar, whispers my name as night comes in? And whose wish never fails to find my vacant heart on Valentine's? Is that you Atlantic Blue? My heart is as cold, My heart is as cold, my heart is as cold as you.
