This is a storehouse! It is called a stabbur. They were built beside houses to store food and other valuables. The stairs are are not attached to the stabbur and it is built on stilts. The architecture was like that to keep the rodents out. #artifactoftheweek #norwegianlafthussociety #reddeer #centralalberta

This is a Nisse! A Nisse is a gnome and a symbol of Christmas. On Christmas Eve the Nisse was given a bowl of porridge as a reward for guarding the farm. If there was no porridge set out, the Nisse would play tricks or engage in mischief. #artifactoftheweek #norwegianlafthussociety #RedDeer #centralalberta #thingsthatareopen
