An all time favourite found in a box of books brought in today!
"I love walking into a bookstore. It's like all my friends are sitting on shelves, waving their pages at me. Tahereh Mafi Today is Canadian Independent Bookstore Day. It is an annual celebration to encourage people to visit their local independent bookstores, either online or in person.... We hope to see you today! Or any day....
It looks like a great day to get outside! Here are a couple of Janet's choices from our gardening section.
Enjoy this video as Sylvia talks of two beautiful books from our new and recommended and then from our something unique shelves. So great hearing Sylvia speak of growing up in Halifax. Sending much love to all of our friends near and far from all of us at LaHave River Books.
Some suggestions for Earth Day. Call or message us to order. We're open 10am to 4pm seven days a week.
Congratulations to all of this year's nominees!

Information Morning on CBC will be speaking with several Nevermore authors and Jo from Block shop Books about Ernie's legacy and impact on publishing in Nova Scotia. Tune in if you can.
Enjoy this blustery day video...on another blustery day.
Our Top 20 of 2020! Here's a list of our top sellers last year. Lots of local authors on the list!
Very sad and unexpected news today. Our hearts go out to Ernie's family and also to the team at Nevermore.
We've heard that some of our customers are 'technologically challenged' and have not found the webstore easy. We certainly understand. We made this little video on Sunday, and it has taken us until this morning to finally post it. It is a step-by-step guide to opening an account and placing an order for a book. Take a look! But of course, if you prefer, we are happy if you simply send us an email or facebook message.
Featuring some local and Nova Scotia poets for Poetry Month.
April is Poetry Month! From the League of Canadian Poets: "What does it mean to be resilient? We meet resilience in every corner we’ve been backed into, every hardship that we endure. Resilience is geographical, spiritual, historical. It’s the fight against climate change, the inner battle with mental health, the outcry for human rights and an end to systemic racism. Resilience is the backbone of generations of trauma, the silence at the dinner table, the bow to culture’s violin. Resilience is the courage to start each day anew. This NPM 2021, we celebrate, reflect on and respect the resilience that has made us who we are."
Got mugs? Vaughan just sent a new batch of LaHave River Books mugs to the store on Saturday fresh from the oven. Let me know if you would like us to put your name on one of them.
We will be open today and tomorrow and every day from now on! 10am to 4pm. Looking forward to seeing you soon!
" we are reminded that books can be a safe place to go when times are tough. Whether you're reading to escape your daily cares, to explore new perspectives or simply to lift your spirits, these stories of perseverance, discovery and resilience will transport you across Canada, around the world and to worlds beyond. Our team worked hard the other day getting the bookstore looking so beautiful. (Charles was behind the camera and worked equally hard.) Come see us anytime from Saturday onward - 7 days a week!
We've noticed something interesting this year: more and more people are purchasing gently used books as gifts. We made this little video to highlight some special vintage books we have for sale.

Don't forget to check the bottom shelves when you are in the store. We love these gorgeous "Recovered Journals". A perfect gift for your favourite book lover.
A bit of news from LaHave River Books: We will continue to be open seven days a week until December 31st (but closed December 25 and 26). Our plan is to open slowly in April. But the great news is our on-line store is now active and ready for you to shop from home. Just visit lahaveriverbooks.ca, create an account (it’s very easy), take a look at what’s on the shelves and what’s available to order, and we’ll do the rest! Wonderful books will continue to arrive through the w...inter months. Just because we won’t be open, doesn’t mean we won’t be busy behind the scenes. More information to come. Enjoy your winter reading!
