Applications for the 2020-2021 shelterbelt program are available at our office in Inglis or on the Assiniboine West Watershed District website. Each landowner can get 25 free flowering trees/shrubs that benefit pollinators until the limit is reached. Additional trees can be ordered at $1.50 per tree. Commonly ordered trees from previous years Green Ash, Bur Oak, Caragana, Red osier Dogwood, Lilac, Manitoba Maple (Box Elder), hybrid Poplar (Oakanese), Siberian Larch, Scots Pin...e, Colorado Spruce, White Spruce, Acute Willow Flowering tree/shrubs Buffaloberry, Saskatoon, Lilac, Dogwood, Caragana, Cotoneaster, Hawthorn, Currant, Elderberry, Honeysuckle, Ussurian Pear, Rose, Sumac, Chokecherry If you are interested in a tree not on the list, let us know and we may be able to order it for you.
Have you considered planting a cover crop? Contact the office to find out about potential funding opportunities for fall cover crops. Cover crops produce free fertilizer, disrupt disease cycles, feed soil biology and increase biodiversity. These are just a few of the many benefits associated with cover crops.
We got a new shipment of recycle bin bags, we now have lots in stock at the Inglis office. As we are a partner and distributer for Recycle Every Where, if you, your community or organization are interested in other types of recycle bins besides what we have in stock at the office, we may be able to order them for you.
Alternate Watering The district will enter into a 50-50% cost share (to a maximum of $7000 depending on environmental benefit) towards the purchase of alternative watering systems, watering bowls and components, irrigation or water pipelines. Contact the office for more information.
