"If you have the time to volunteer, or set aside some time, there are so many different areas where you can make a difference in someone's life. A friendly voic...e and a warm smile goes a long way in a lonely person's life. There are many ways to volunteer, choose one that is suitable for you, one which brings joy to your heart and fills a void for someone else." Cleo is a volunteer at Lake Country Health and the Lake Country Seniors Housing Society. She was born in Trinidad, pursued her Nursing Career in the UK, immigrated to Canada in 1984, and has been in the Okanagan since 1990. Thank you Cleo for your incredible commitment to our community! This is the last week to enter the CanAge and HelpAge Canada content that runs through until Jan 1! canage.ca/holidaycheer.
We received a wonderful Christmas present - a new logo and a new website to go with a new year. We are excited about all the changes coming up and we look forward to continuing to serve our community through advocacy, education and support for years to come. Our new website is www.lakecountryhealth.ca - make sure you bookmark it because the old site will be decommissioned by the end of the year.
No one wants to spend the holidays alone. Even though COVID-19 has changed the way we stay connected, social distancing doesn’t have to mean social isolation! This year, CanAge and HelpAge Canada have teamed up to bring you 23 gifts1 for each day between Dec 10 and Jan 1that you can use to share the holidays with your loved ones, no matter where you are. Social isolation is a serious problem for older Canadians. Join us in keeping everyone safe, happy and connected this holiday season! Visit canage.ca/holidaycheer.

On November 8, 2020, the Samms family lost their home in a devastating fire. Thankfully the family and their dog made it out safely, but they lost everything and are left with nothing but the clothes off their backs. The Samms are a hardworking family with strong ties in our community. They are part of the local hockey association and brownies group in town. The family is now left to pick up the pieces from this devastating tragedy. Donations to the family are being solicited... through GoFundMe and at the IDA by Save-On Foods (Megan, the manager, is organizing donations. https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-for-the-samms
