It has been a very busy season for Lions! Some of the members of Lakehead Lions have been working together to collect food hampers containing essential grocery items for the Underground Gym food distribution program. Four hampers in total were collected and distributed to families in need! The Underground Gym is a youth centre that was founded by Peter Panetta, offering free activities such as crafting, sports, tutoring, music, food/clothing programs and many more to children and families in need in Thunder Bay. If you’re interested in getting involved in the community through the many programs offered by the Underground Gym, visit www.undergroundgym.ca for more information!
Big shout out to Lion’s Dhaval, who has been collecting clothing items (jackets, shoes, shirts, etc) since January. He gathered 4 large bags in total and donated to the Community Clothing Assistance Program. This charity is geared towards relieving poverty and crisis amount people in Thunder Bay through clothing drives, providing people with free and affordable clothing. If you are interested in donating gently used clothing, drop offs are accepted at their storefront location on 404 May Street N, or money donations can also be made through this link: https://www.canadahelps.org///clothing-assistance-mission/ Awesome job Dheval!
The bottle drive Lakehead Campus Lions hosted this past Sunday was a huge success! We raised a total of $140, all of which is being donated towards the Lions KidSight program. Children experiencing eyesight troubles is often over-looked, because majority of the time it is hard to catch unless children are displaying major signs of learning difficulties. Kidsight is an awesome program that offers screening technology for kids from 6 months-grade 12, allowing any potential vision issues to be caught easily and early. Friendly reminder to put your bottles out this afternoon!
Attention Parkdale residents! To help support the Lions KidSight program, Lakehead Campus Lions is hosting a bottle-drive from 12-2 this Sunday! We will be driving around the neighbourhood to collect any cans, beer, liquor, and wine bottles that are put out on the curb. If you live outside of Parkdale and you’re interested in donating, send us a message and we can make arrangements for pickups on Sunday. Your generosity is much appreciated!
