Music Students Winners in International Music Competition Two Lakehead University music students finish in first and second places in the 2022 Crescendo International Music Competition. Evelyn Davenport won first place in the piano category and Jessica Hayes won second place in the voice category. Both students have been invited to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City this winter. Congratulations to Evelyn and Jessica and their teachers, Evgeny Chugunov, piano and Kim Erickson, voice for this important achievement!

Lakehead International extends a big congratulations to Lakehead Music student, Evelyn Davenport, who placed first in the Cremona International Competition ...for Piano held virtually this July. As first-prize winner, Davenport will be performing at the Winners Concert in Cremona, Italy in 2022, as well as performing a piano concerto with the Festival Orchestra next summer. Today Evelyn won the 1st Prize in the advanced category of the 2021 Cremona Internationa...l Piano Competition (Cremona International Music Academy), and Tienchee won the 2nd Prize in the Intermediate competition category! Both Evelyn and Tienchee will be performing at the Winners Concert in Cremona 2022. In Memoriam Glen Carruthers Glen Carruthers, founding Chair of the Department of Music, educator, colleague, and friend to many at Lakehead University sadly passed away on December 24, 2020. During his ten years at Lakehead University (1988-1998), Glen touched many people's lives and inspired many students with his unconventional approach to music education. Those who knew Glen will miss him very much. The Roy Coran Big Band had to cut their 2019/2020 season short but were still able to make a contribution to the Music Department of Lakehead University in supp...ort of the Roy Coran Bursary. We are very grateful to the LU music department for their support of our band. We look forward to performing as a band again (Fall 2021?....fingers crossed) so we can continue to support the LU music students.
