Lakehead University Women in Law 30.04.2021

Women in Law Society joins the Thunder Bay Community in celebrating International Women’s Day 2021. March 8 is International Women’s Day, a time to celebrate the contributions of women and girls everywhere; to recognize women who inspire us all; and to renew discussion about the importance of gender equality in Canada and around the world. This International Women’s Day, the theme is to advance gender equality and support an inclusive recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. An... inclusive recovery offers the opportunity to advance gender equality and provide economic and social stability for all Canadians. In consideration of the significant challenges women in the Thunder Bay community have faced in light of this pandemic, Women in Law is proud donate to Beendigen, an organization that provides support to local women and children. In addition, Women in Law is supporting our female law students in donating menstrual products that will be made available at our law school building for the upcoming fall semester (which hopefully will be in person!) Thank you and Happy International Women’s Day! Attached Links: https://cfc-swc.gc.ca/commemoration/iwd-jif/theme-en.html http://www.beendigen.com/

October 18 is Persons Day in Canada! It marks the day in 1929 when the historic decision to include women in the legal definition of persons was handed down by Canada’s highest court of appeal. This gave some women the right to be appointed to the Senate of Canada and paved the way for women's increased participation in public and political life. Though this decision did not include all women, such as Indigenous women and women of Asian heritage and descent, it did mark critical progress in the advancement of gender equality in Canada. Celebrate this day with us the Women and Law Society and LEAF Thunder Bay at their Online Person's Day Breakfast, October 22 @ 9:30 AM! (Tickets required)
