April is Organ Donation Awareness Month, and 14-year-old Erin is now recovering in hospital after receiving a liver transplant almost three weeks ago. When Er...in's family got the call saying there was a liver available, they left the Ronald McDonald House in Calgary to go to the Ronald McDonald House in Edmonton. Erin's family is so grateful for RMHC Alberta and the home environment it offers for Erin, giving her the opportunity to be a 'normal' teenager. "The Ronald McDonald House is the one place where you can be 'unmedical'," Mom Melanie says. "It provides a sense of normalcy when you have no normalcy." To read more of Erin's story, please subscribe to our April newsletter by signing up on our home page at rmhcalberta.org. See more

RMHC Alberta provides a sense of home; giving families a place to sleep, eat, restore, and receive the support of community. This made all the difference for th...e MacLeod family who stayed at RMHC Alberta for a total of 367 combined nights over seven separate stays, while Khai was being treated in Edmonton for a multivisceral organ transplant. When families stay together, sick children get stronger. #FamilyIsMedicine #KeepingFamiliesClose See more

Greg Durda is a longstanding supporter of RMHC Alberta, and dedicates over 150 hours yearly to volunteering and fundraising efforts in the Peace Region. Greg'...s son Matthew lost his battle to cancer when he was seven years old, and during Matthew's fight the Durda family called RMHC Alberta home. Wanting to give back, over the years Greg has spearheaded two of RMHC Alberta's signature events, taking over the Randy Greg Golf Tour and creating Shoot for the House -- the single largest one-day non-registered fundraising shoot in Canada, which continues to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars annually for RMHC Alberta more than eight years later. Thank you Greg for your commitment to our mission, and for championing our organization - a shining example of so many of our thousands of event volunteers across the province, who help out through sponsorship, on organizing committees, or with critical tasks day-of. Our events are a success because of all of you. #NVW2021 #NationalVolunteerWeek #KeepingFamiliesClose See more

It's #NationalVolunteerWeek and over the coming days we'll be shining the spotlight on a few of our volunteers across the province. Whether they work in our f...our Houses as front desk hosts, bakers, house refreshers, or shuttle drivers, or whether they volunteer to make our fundraising events a success, we couldn't do the work that we do without them. This year has been difficult without the usual roster of friendly faces in our Houses - including our Home for Dinner meal groups and our recreational volunteers, to name a few. We are so thankful to those essential volunteers who have helped us throughout the pandemic, and we thank them for weathering the ups and downs of the past year with us. Our volunteers are critical to ensuring we're looking after our families day in and day out. We look forward to a time when our Houses and events can be full of volunteers again, but until then we offer our gratitude and wish health & safety to you all. #NVW2021 #KeepingFamiliesClose See more

The Vo family stayed at RMHC Alberta in Edmonton for 91 nights when Taya had a liver transplant, and Mom was her living donor. Having family close by for hugs helped Taya get stronger. #FamilyIsMedicine #KeepingFamiliesClose

At RMHC Alberta, families find the comforts of home -- such as warm meals, play areas, kitchen use, laundry facilities, and private family suites -- just steps ...away from their sick child in hospital. This made all the difference for the French family, who had three separate stays in two of Alberta's Ronald McDonald Houses, for their daughter Clara. RMHC Alberta took care of the little things, so the French family could focus on being there for their daughter. When families stay together, sick children get stronger. #FamilyIsMedicine #KeepingFamiliesClose See more

The Fabrick family checked out last week after 25 nights in our Calgary House and baby Charlie just turned one-month-old! He looks pretty cute showing off his R...MHC Alberta onesie! Charlie arrived 8 weeks early in Drumheller, and was rushed to the Foothills NICU shortly thereafter. Charlie surpassed all expectations and goals set for him by his care team, and after a week he was transferred to the Level 2 NICU at Rockyview General Hospital where he gained weight and grew stronger. In honour of #WorldPrematurityDay yesterday, Charlie's Dad Joel shared these photos with us. "We got to be with him each day thanks to the support of the Ronald McDonald House, and don't know how we would have gotten through this difficult time without all the hospitality," Joel says. "We don't know how we will ever repay our gratitude, but we will be strong advocates and cheerleaders for the Ronald McDonald House for the rest of our lives." We wish all the best to baby Charlie, Joel, and Tracy as they continue to settle back in at home! #KeepingFamiliesClose

#NationalPhilanthropyDay is a celebration of the giving, volunteering, and charitable engagement that makes our communities better and stronger places. Today RM...HC Alberta would like to acknowledge all of our stakeholders and supporters who help us keep families together during the most difficult times in their lives. It has been a challenging year for us all, yet our supporters have stepped up to the plate. These families - including the Pelletiers, the Gorhams, the Websdales, and the Leffingwells - who have recently checked out of our Houses after a combined total stay of 157 nights relied on your support and generosity in order to travel for their child's medical treatment. On behalf of all the families we continue to serve, happy #NPD2020

We're proud of the results of a recent RBC Economic Impact study showing that RMHC Alberta saved families almost $6.5 million in 2019, and Ronald McDonald House... Charities Canada saved families $48 million. It's hard to put a price on the kind of support we offer the hundreds of families that come through our doors each year, but this underscores the economic value of our services in this province. #KeepingFamiliesClose

Our community was rocked by a tragic loss this week, as our own beloved warrior Princess Em lay down her sword and raised her hands in victory to the heavens. ...She was a beautiful and funny little girl, and I was so blessed and honoured to have been a part of her life, and to have had the chance to be changed just by knowing her. In honour of princess Emma’s beautiful life, and her amazing light, I am donating 25% of sales from my holiday minis November 14/15 and November 28/29 to the Ronald McDonald House Charities Alberta, Edmonton House in Em’s name. Gather your friends and family and choose a meal from one of our partner restaurants. Once you choose your menu option, pick up your dinner curbside on November 19 and hop online to connect with us virtually for a one-night-only event. This is a great opportunity to enjoy great food and great company for a great cause! Participating cities include Calgary, Edmonton, Grande Prairie, Medicine Hat and Red Deer. But don’t worry - if you don’t live in one of these city centres, you can still buy a virtual ticket and join us for online programming from 7 - 8pm. Ticket prices are $100 for the adult menu option (with a $50 tax receipt); $25 for the youth menu option; and $50 for a virtual option (no meal) only. We invite you to help us reimagine our galas in order to safely allow you to support #RMHCAlberta families from the comfort of your own home. We look forward to ‘seeing’ you! We are thankful for family. For the hundreds of families who come through our doors each year across the province. For the families who are able to stay togethe...r due to the support of a Ronald McDonald House, and for the families who are able to leave together after navigating their child's medical journey. Tanya Ryan & Grant Galway took baby Cooper home to Fox Lake after 55 nights in time to celebrate Thanksgiving. Cooper was born premature, and his parents were grateful for the support we were able to offer them. Happy Thanksgiving weekend to your families, during these challenging times. We wish you health, happiness and safety. #KeepingFamiliesClose

Five-year-old Daxton Schlosser's family has spent a total of 203 nights at RMHC Alberta. When he left last weekend after his most recent stay of 49 nights, Daxt...on got an extra special surprise. Not only did he get his trip to the Magic Room, but Daxton's family surprised him with his biggest wish of all...a puppy named Zero! The family was contacted by a breeder who offered them a special price on the pup after a note was put out on social media. They were able to raise the funds for the puppy through friends and family, and Daxton met his puppy outside the Edmonton House. Now, we're not saying that our Magic Room should officially offer puppies from now on...but we're not NOT saying it either! #KeepingFamiliesClose

Scott Irwin, Phoebe McFarlane, and baby Luella Dawn were one of the first families to stay in our Medicine Hat House. Baby Luella arrived ahead of a planned ind...uction, via emergency C-section but needed to stay a few days in the NICU to grow stronger. Scott & Phoebe described the House as a blessing. "We can't express our gratitude enough for having us. Without it - we don't know what we would have done."
