Lakeshore Baseball Association 13.10.2020

Dear members, We, the Lakeshore Baseball Association Board, would like to start by thanking our members for their patience in waiting for information and especially to those who were willing to volunteer this season. We understand that many have been eagerly awaiting a start date, especially with the announcement made yesterday by our provincial government. It is with great sadness that we must cancel the 2020 baseball season.... We did not make this heartbreaking decision rashly. Those of you who heard from us in the last weeks know the efforts that were made to pull a season together. To those of you, and your kids, who were excited about baseball this summer, who volunteered to help and who spent hours trying to make it happen, we sincerely apologize. It goes without saying that we are in the middle of a pandemic & unfortunately, the impact on our sport has been multi-faceted. With rigorous guidelines to follow, restricted facility access, heavy demands on volunteers in both responsibility and numbers as well as a year when our registration is down and the uncertain progression of the season ahead of us, we could not ensure both a safe & fun season. It is always our priority to ensure the safety of our players, their families, and our surrounding communities. While we have the guidelines to do so, the demands of its implementation were not within our ability to achieve. We did not have the number of volunteers needed to meet all the required positions for each team nor to manage the field as would have been required. Rigid blueprints required for each event including entrance & exit strategies to the field, player & spectator placement maps coupled with our baseball guidelines, as stipulated by Baseball Quebec in collaboration with the Santé Publique were demanding, to say the least. The required continuous disinfection of equipment & players’ hands throughout the event while maintaining social distancing would not have been feasible. If we could be guaranteed, by some miracle, that all of this would only be for a short time and that regular play would eventually be a safe reality for us this summer, we may be in a different position. We could have delayed. That is not the case. We know that the virus remains a risk & with that comes tremendous demands & responsibility. Our only choice is to look ahead. The 2021 season is our future and we look forward to recommencing then. Refunds will be sent within the next few days, there is no need to make a request. We wish you all a safe & happy summer. We cannot wait to see you next spring! Warmest & respectful regards, Your LBA
