March 6th is National Dentist's Day. It was established as a way to show appreciation and thanks for dentists. Dr. Danyka Paulin (Dr. Danyka) and Dr. Catherine Senecal (Dr. Cat) lead the way with their admirable focus on providing the best patient experience possible, as well as setting the highest standard of quality and patient care that our office provides. It's Dental Assistants Recognition Week! The theme this year is "Our Heart Goes Into Every Smile". Our office recognizes the very important and personal role dental assistants play in the health and happiness of our patients, as well as the entire dental team! Shout out to Joanne, Shannon and Jessica for being the daily glue that unites our Clinical Team. Aside from the essential work that they do every day clinically, they also bring comfort, empathy and kindness to our patients. Thank you!

Due to the COVID19 pandemic, our office will not be collecting items for the food bank. However, we will be supporting the food bank this year in a different way. Our team is contributing to "The Drive-By Santa Experience" and we encourage our patients and our community to do the same!

Every October, Children’s Aid Societies across Ontario raise awareness about the important role that individuals and communities play in supporting vulnerable children, youth, and families through the provincial Dress Purple Day campaign. The campaign is more important than ever, since the COVID-19 pandemic has created additional stressors for families, and in some cases has increased risk for the well-being and safety of children and youth. Orange Shirt Day (September 30th) is a day when we honour the Indigenous children who were sent away to residential schools in Canada and learn more about the history of those schools. We wore orange today to in support of this and to raise awareness about this heartbreaking history.

It is with sadness and joy that I write you, my devoted patient, to inform you that I will be retiring from dentistry in my 29th year of practice as of today, July 27, 2020. My emotions are mixed with this decision. I must thank you for placing your trust in me for your care over these many years. I am truly humbled by your confidence in me. I am delighted to have had the chance to meet you, know you and have shared personal conversations with you. At this time, I am leavi...ng you in great hands with two exceptional bilingual dentists to help you with all of your concerns. Dr. Danyka Paulin and Dr. Catherine Senecal are both accomplished dentists. They have shown their competence over the past couple of years and it is without reservation that I recommend these two individuals for your continued care. But most importantly, I leave you with my pride and joy: my team at Lakeshore Dental Care. They always show respect, compassion and always greet you with a smile. Their support and encouragement are second to none. Our team was one of the few in North Bay that made itself available for you during the Covid crisis. They answered your calls and made every possible effort to guide and direct you when we were forced to close the office. This shows and proves how dedicated they are to you. I want to reassure you that they will remain as a team and be there for your following my departure. The hard work I put into finding the right people who share my values has been, by far, my greatest accomplishment. I am truly proud of this incredible group. As for me, I plan to make a solid effort to golf more than once per year. I would like to improve my skills in my workshop building the odd piece of furniture and the odd cabinet. I will likely take the opportunity to travel more to Europe once the travel restrictions ease. But mostly, I will enjoy my time at home by the lake with my beautiful spouse Trish, sitting by the fireplace with a glass of exceptional red wine. Though we will miss her, we are thrilled for our Hygiene Coordinator Jenn's new adventure. Here is her farewell letter to our patients: "To the Patients (or as I see them) the many Friends I have made at Lakeshore Dental Care, It has been an absolute pleasure being your Dental Hygiene Coordinator over the last 4+ years. You’re probably wondering where I am? ... A new opportunity has presented itself to me and I will now be working with a company that assists the administrators of hospitals schedule their staff. With everything going on in the world right now, this feels like the right next step for my career while still contributing to the wellbeing of our frontline workers and healthcare teams in Canada and the world. As many of you know, I graduated as a Dental Hygienist back in 2015. However, being a clinical Hygienist wasn’t for me. My passion is to help others in the community, so I wanted to be able to combine my education and my passion. When the Dental Hygiene Coordinator position became available here at Lakeshore Dental Care, I thought to myself, ‘this is an opportunity to use my knowledge to help others without working as a dental hygienist’ and decided to apply. I’m really happy I did. But just as importantly, this job came recommended to me by a friend who knew the team and described them as a family unit. She also told me that Dr. Latour was an amazing Dentist who took care of his team. And you know what? She was absolutely right! The team here at Lakeshore Dental Care has been oh so much fun, loving and professional. Dr. Latour was an incredible leader and friend to me during my time here. It was an honor being part of his team. I will miss working with this family very much. I know how lucky I have been to be a part of this team for 4 years and these friendships are very important to me. And to you the patients. My hope is that I have served you well and that you felt appreciated and taken care of. Getting to know you and your families became one my biggest accomplishments here because I felt your trust and your confidence in me. Thank you for re-instilling in me my love for the community.
