On a stretch of highway between Eriksdale and Poplarfield, on a windswept ridge, is a lonely sign put in place to commemorate the High Plains School District which closed in 1967. With the release of the K-12 report and Bill 64, it is now a good time to reflect on our past and our future way forward. We believe that now more than ever is an important moment to advocate for thriving rural communities and schools. Our board has written an open letter to Minister Cullen to express our vision and concerns about the proposed changes to the school system. https://www.lakeshoresd.mb.ca/Open%20Letter%20to%20Minister We would also encourage you to have your voice heard. The province currently has an open survey for feedback where you can provide input. https://engagemb.ca/better-education-starts-today

This morning there was an announcement by Minister Cullen that the Education Review will be released on Monday, March 15th at 3:30. We look forward with optimism, openness and hope that the review will benefit our students. However, in the announcement today, there were comments made that alluded to Manitoba scoring low on international student test scores. In Lakeshore, we want to be clear that we are proud of the work our staff does and while test scores can be a useful... tool, education is about so much moremetrics to determine success should include a broad array of outcomes including equity, well-being, creativity and community involvement. We believe that education is about creating thriving students and communities. We must equip our youth to be innovative, caring, wise, and persistent individuals who are ready to be good citizens. Whatever, the Education Review brings, let us not lose sight of who we are and what education is about. https://news.gov.mb.ca/news/index.html

It's been very cold and we want to remind parents to make sure students are dressed in appropriate clothing for this weather in case buses run late or breakdown on route.
