Adding a new chapter to my life. After 7 years with @rdckingshockey the time has come for me to move on to a HC position. As of today I will be taking over as HC of the Optimist U18 AAA Chiefs! Meet our newest instructor, Jantzen Leslie. Janny has a tremendous hockey resume. Hailing from Lloydminster, the RDC King played 3 seasons in the WHL with Everett, Saskatoon and Edmonton. He also represented his region as team Captain at the Alberta Cup, player for U16 Team Alberta and was part of the U17 National Development program with Team Canada in ‘15/16. In a scoring slump? This happens to even the most talented players at every level of hockey. Our advice - change something! Our personal favourite is to change the colour of tape on you stick. Some other easy changes could be the way you put your gear on, your pre game meal, a new song, or writing something small on your stick (a scope to represent a hockey sniper is also one of our favs). You hear lots of talk about how the best players make other players around them better but what does that mean? Communication is a big part of that along with little intangibles such as this clip. Draisaitl kicks the puck out just before the entry but watch what he does with his stick as soon as he dishes. It’s a quick clip and hard to catch but he ties up the LA D-mans stick for just a second, delaying his ability to get stick on puck right away and allowing 44 to make a play. Beautiful example of a quick release from your strong side. Good positioning, absorbs the pass into immediate shot zone, shifts positioning and snaps the puck off his stick. CTP- 9 (Johnson) scores, 21 (Point) makes a beautiful pass, 86 (Kucherov) makes the most skilled play for the goal. CHIP TO POSSESSION is an incredibly skilled play to allow your team to maintain possession. One of the measuring tools I use to evaluate players is who has the puck once it leaves your stick. I have seen it grow from roughly 5000 people to where we are today! I am extremely excited to have the opportunity to work with some of the bright young talent this town has to offer! Cody Reynolds has spent the majority of his life instructing at camps, running skill development sessions, and coaching at various levels. Currently, he is the Associate Coach for the Red Deer College Kings Hockey Team and a PE Teacher at Fox Run Middle School. He is also an Assistant Coach with the men’s U16 Team Alberta and will be competing in the WHL cup this October. He has worked with some of the best skill development coaches in the world including Corey McNabb (Director of Player Development with Hockey Canada) and Joe Quinn (Founder and CEO of Power Edge Pro). This led him to develop the current on ice program for Fox Run Hockey Academy in Sylvan Lake; a very successful program ran through Fox Run Middle School. Through continuous learning, pushing to evolve, and over two decades of experience, he brings his innovative ideas to the ice.
