We won’t really try to guess your age but you may give yourself away .... what cartoon did you love to watch as a kid?

Lakeside Church 09.05.2021

Hi! We are Syd & Edith Durose. We have been attending Lakeside for about 25 years. Our two wonderful daughters, two grandchildren, and two great grandchildren are a real blessing to us. During our time at Lakeside we have had the privilege of serving in various ministry areas. Greeting, ushering, prayer, folding team, and answering phones are some of them. The 55+ Group and the Monday morning Bible study group have been a very special part of our lives. We are so thankful for the ministry team God has provided for us at Lakeside. Even though we have thoroughly enjoyed the services online, we can't wait until we can go back to worship with our church family. We miss being together with everyone. Love you and pray for you! #lakesidepeople

Is there something you've been praying for but you haven't seen evidence that God is working? A family member? A business? An important decision? A career move? When did you realize you'd stopped praying? Sometimes we need to slow down and take up a posture of reflection. Our God is a miracle-working God who can do the impossible. But if you've given up on something lately, this message might be just what you need to hear today.

Lakeside Church 14.04.2021

Are you fighting to be successful or are you fighting to be faithful?

Lakeside Church 08.04.2021

ARE YOU READY? Are you ready to have an encounter with God? To learn more about the life of Jesus? To feel what it means to soak in scripture? To have your views challenged? To allow your eyes to be opened? To experience life change? To dig into the Bible like never before? Are you ready for that and so much more?... Last Sunday, we started a new series in the gospel of Luke. We may be here for weeks, months, or even years! And as we go through this series, there are a few things that will help you to engage more with the scriptures and gain a deeper understanding of Jesus. 1. Read the book of Luke. Each week there will be new passages to dig into. You can read it all at once, a chunk every day, or you can soak in the particular scripture for the week. For this Sunday, that's Luke 1:5-25. 2. Discuss it with others. Talk about with your group, your family, or some friends. If you want people to journey with, we've got a small group starting this Wednesday that will be taking a deeper dive into the message over Zoom, and we're putting together men's and women's Marco Polo groups (if you can't commit to a set day/time every week, this might be a great option for you). Text us at 226-400-2189 and we'll send you some more information. 3. Pause & Pray. Every Wednesday afternoon, Pastor Robyn Elliott shares a time of devotion and prayer right here on Facebook (and Instagram). We encourage you to take a few moments each week to pause and reflect. 4. Pray. Pray for the series, for our pastors, for the people who will hear these messages. Pray for what God is going to do for and through our church as we listen to the Spirit. We can't wait to see you this Sunday (online only) at 10am.

Do you have a plan for your life? For your business? Your career? A relationship? But what happens if life doesn’t turn out the way you think that it should? How will you respond when your plans get turned upside down? In this message, Pastor Marc Gagnon leads us through a passage in Luke as we look at the way Mary handled the news that her life was going to change forever. What can we learn from this story and what question do we need to ask ourselves every time life throws us a curveball? Whether you are new to Lakeside or a regular, we want to connect with you! Text us at 226-400-2189 or visit lakesidechurch.ca/connect, and click the connect button, and let us know how we can help you! Notice no one says, "Happy Ash Wednesday!" Because it is a day of reflection on our mortality and our failing SO THAT we will discover the depth of Christ's love. Let's invite the Holy Spirit on a search and rescue mission deep into the crevices of our hearts. Prayer: Save us, O God, From the blindness, which is not even aware of our faults; From the pride, which cannot admit that it is wrong; From the self-will, which can see nothing but its own way;... From the self-righteousness, which can see no flaw within itself; From the callousness, which has excused away sin so often that it has ceased to care; From the defiance, which is not even sorry for its sins; From the evasion, which always puts the blame on someone or on something else; From the heart so hardened, that it cannot repent. Give us at all times Eyes which are open to our own faults; A conscience which is sensitive and quick to warn us; A heart which cannot be at peace with darkness but which is moved to regret and to remorse. So that we may find that your love is great enough to cover all our failings; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen See more

A lot of people had breakfast for dinner yesterday for #pancaketuesday, but when it comes to the most important meal of the day, what’s your go-to? Is it a coffee/muffin, a green smoothie, a bowl of cereal, or do you prefer a hearty breakfast with all the fixings? We want to know what your favourite breakfast food/meal is.

Are you willing to be open? We've just spent the last six weeks wrestling with this question. Are you willing to open up your life to others and allow them in? Because we have a God-shaped hole in our heart, but we also have a people-shaped hole that God designed others to fill. Jesus offers life. He knows everything you're afraid to open up about. He knows all of it and he loves you unconditionally.... So ask yourself this question honestly ... are you willing to be open to community? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnRBk19lqUs

We are Wiebe and Dixie Kroezen. We have attended Lakeside since 2000. You may have seen us at Lakeside with a camera around our necks photographing various activities. Say cheese!! We both love photography as a hobby and try to get out when we can. Dixie is a gardener and plays baseball. Wiebe enjoys cycling and is serving on the Elder Team. #lakesidepeople

Community may be one of the most over-promised, under-delivered aspects of the Christian life today. - Ruth Haley Barton But that doesn’t mean we won’t stop fighting for real, authentic, transformational community ... because God created us to do life with other people. How are you connected in community?... https://m.youtube.com/watch

Lakeside Church 30.12.2020

Did you know? There are hundreds of people who call Lakeside their church home. And while we can’t see everyone in person these days, we can still find ways to be together. One of our core values at Lakeside is that everyone can experience community - you don’t have to go it alone - so let’s get to know each other a little better! This is Sig Beck! I have been co-leading DivorceCare at Lakeside for the past 15 years and I enjoy organizing social events and Bible studies for Christian singles. Some of my passions are photography, gardening and swimming. Hopefully one day soon, we can also travel again.

How do you want to start this new year? If you need a moment to reflect, if you need a moment to be still, if you just need a moment to sit in the presence of God, allow Pastor Robyn to walk you through a brief time of prayer right now. Don’t keep scrolling .... this could be the two minutes that breathes oxygen into your soul today.

This morning, our team of On Call volunteers loaded up their vehicles and delivered new home kits, cleaning supplies, gift cards, and a BIG cheque to Wyndham House. Thank you, Lakeside, for your incredible generosity this Christmas. Because of you, Wyndham House continues to do what they do best - helping prevent, reduce, and end youth homelessness right here in our community. It may have just been a set of sheets to you, a gift card, or a cash donation, but those items have ...the power to help change lives. YOU did this! And it was a beautiful moment this morning as we were able to personally deliver the items, and to reflect on all the ways our church has been blessed to be a blessing to others. We think this is the start of a beautiful friendship! Check out our story for some behind-the-scenes photos from today.

Lakeside Church 17.12.2020

When you hear the word ‘community,’ what do you think? A television show? One of our core values? An overused church word serving only to filter people into small groups? We all know on some level that we need to do life with other people, but what does that look like and how do we open ourselves to it? We’re starting a brand new series this Sunday and we hope to see you online at 10am at live.lakesidechurch.ca or right here on Facebook.

Lakeside Church 13.12.2020

Just a reminder, there is no gathering tomorrow (Sunday, Dec. 27), but we’ve put together a number of options you can participate in on your own or as a family. It’s Experience Sunday ... and you get to choose your own adventure. Go to our website at lakesidechurch.ca/experience-sunday to read more about it. Our pastors have also put together some short videos explaining each option. We can’t wait to hear more about how you experienced Sunday.

Last week we looked back at our words for 2020, but this week is all about looking forward. What’s your word for 2021? Feel free to also share what it means to you.

With all that’s going on in the world right now, it’s fitting that this is the song we’re introducing this weekend. You reign above it all. You reign above it all. Over the universe... And over every heart There is no higher name Jesus, You reign above it all Take a moment to let those words sink in as you listen to Casey sing this beautiful song!

Friends, we have a lot of feelings about 2020 and all the ways it shifted our routines, our lives, and our relationships, but as we move into a new year, let’s remember to look for all the ways God is filling, empowering, inspiring, and inviting. Marc and Robyn closed out yesterday’s message with these beautiful words from Commoners Communion. May you see where God is filling, empowering, inspiring, and inviting, and not just where the world is stealing, throbbing, taunting..., and destroying; that this new year would bring with it new hope, like God’s graces in the morning, towing you into the waters of New Life. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZRc4eGSdNM

Have you ever had an argument with someone on social media? Or have you read the comments section of any contentious post? What about the last time you watched a political debate? Have you ever had a disagreement with a family member at Christmas dinner? There is such a thing as a bad environment for civil discourse, because public debates are always about winning, not about learning. When you’re tackling disagreements, it’s not as important to win as it is to love well. ... Ask yourself this question: Do I want to make a point or do I want to make a difference? If it’s the latter, choose the right environment.

Lakeside Church 09.11.2020

Merry Christmas from our Lakeside staff to your family!

Lakeside Church 03.11.2020

How do you love people? You get to know them. You hear their story. You ask what’s on their heart. You know about their family. You know what they take in their coffee. Loving people means seeing an individual, not a label or a group or a political view. How are you loving people right now? Are there any labels you need to stop using? Are there names you need to get to know?

Lakeside Church 03.11.2020

But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. - 2 Corinthians 4:7 In His infinite wisdom, God has allowed supernatural, unbreakable, unstoppable power to reside in a container that is fragile a jar of clay. This year, we’re all a little more fragile. Situations we once managed with ease are now much more difficult. Relationships are more strained. Plans are more difficult to make. We’re not as gracious with o...thers as we’d like to be. Friends, if God wanted you to be unbreakable, He would have made it so. He designed you as a jar of clay on purpose. So let's tread lightly in each others' lives, and let's welcome into our lives the unbreakable, unstoppable power of God as we move forward into 2021. Happy New Year!

Lakeside Church 31.10.2020

Just for fun ... Would you rather have someone clean for you or cook for you?

This Sunday, Marc is sharing a message that might make you re-think some things. Take a listen and then take a guess as to what one of Marc’s least favourite books of the Bible is. See you at 10am this Sunday at Lakeside North, Lakeside Downtown, or Lakeside Online.

Lakeside Church 25.10.2020

How do we deal with people with disagree with? We love out. As Jesus people, we need to be others-centered, we need to use environments that encourage civil discourse, we need to think well of people, and we need to know more about people than the position they hold - we need to understand their story. How are you loving out? Who do you need to love better? https://youtu.be/lgeY3ke4RLE

Lakeside Church 19.10.2020

He must become greater; I must become less. - John 3:30 John records John the Baptist as saying about Jesus, He must become greater; I must become less. So often people in leadership roles make it about themselves their ideas, their authority, their preferences - yet, biblical pattern is that we step down the ladder and see Jesus rise higher. Today, ask God to show you areas where you may need to become less.

Lakeside Church 17.10.2020

As our Vaccine series comes to a close we’ve looked at the five things that help create healthy civil discourse. In this last point, Marc suggests that as a last resort there are times you may need to walk away, that even Jesus tapped out. Don’t go there immediately - use the other four points before getting to that place - but there are times you may need to end the conversation. How have these points helped you navigate disagreements in your life? What do you need to work on? And what is God asking for your next step to be in this area?

Lakeside Church 04.10.2020

Now when I went to Troas to preach the gospel of Christ and found that the Lord had opened a door for me, I still had no peace of mind, because I did not find my brother Titus there. So I said goodbye to them and went on to Macedonia. - 2 Corinthians 2:12-13. The Apostle Paul speaks here of an open door for ministry that God had provided him. Yet there is a surprising confession I still had no peace of mind, because I did not find my brother Titus there. Fruitful ministry, but no peace. This year, we’ve recognized in a whole new way that life (and ministry) apart from meaningful, close human friendships is empty. Going into 2021, investing in those relationships takes on new meaning. Today, pray for God to invite deep, meaningful connections into your life.

Lakeside Church 29.09.2020

Happy Thanksgiving! Even though this holiday doesn’t look like many of us thought it would, we can still be grateful. We often ask the question, What are you thankful for? but instead, let’s ask, WHO are you thankful for today?

Lakeside Church 24.09.2020

So many of you asked for the song we sang this morning at both of our locations. Here it is. Enjoy! Your promise still stands Great is Your faithfulness, faithfulness I'm still in Your hands... This is my confidence, You've never failed me yet https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZOBIPb-6PTc

As we close out a year that's been anything but normal, let's take a look back. Did you have a word for 2020? If so, what was it? How did that word come alive for you during the past 12 months?

"But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up." - Daniel 3:18 Facing capital punishment for not following the king’s orders, Daniel's friends place their faith in God and double down their resistance effort with the classic line, Even if he doesn’t (referring to God saving them), we will not serve your gods. That kind of confidence in God is something we can take forward into 2021. Today, think of times in your life where God has been faithful, even in the midst of difficulty.

Lakeside Church 23.08.2020

There are so many things that inform a whole year, but 2020 was The Big Pause. In so many ways all of our lives got put on pause this year. A pause is temporary. A pause gives you opportunity to reflect, to look more closely, to learn. As you close out 2020, the year of the big pause, we encourage you to take some time to crystalize those things that you will carry forward into the coming year. Over the next five days we're going to share our Executive Pastor's top five scr...iptures with you (if you receive the Lakeside newsletter you will have already seen these, but we wanted to offer them in bite-sized chunks that would serve as daily reminders and the opportunity to share with others). Psalm 137 This passage is an example of the bible concept of lament. When you lament, you grieve what is lost and you call out for God to restore. Like no other year, we have experienced loss this year. We have recognized that our ability to control circumstances is much less than we had realized, and so we've learned we need to call out to God. Take this one forward with you into every new season of loss that comes your way. Today, sit down, find a moment of quiet, and lament. Call out to God. Grieve. Mourn. Cry. Make a list of all that was lost this year. Pray for restoration. Pray for healing.

If you’d like to celebrate communion wherever you are, we invite you to watch this short video as Robyn shares the experience of leading communion in your own home. The antidote to anger is forgiveness, and this Sunday, we're talking about what forgiveness is and what it is not. If you're finding it difficult to deal with anger, or you're just a human who gets angry from time to time, this series is so important because we want to take time to take care of our hearts, and left undealt with, anger can rot our heart. #vaccine

To be loved but not known is comforting but superficial. To be known and not loved is our greatest fear. But to be fully known and truly loved is, well, a lot like being loved by God. - Tim Keller

Lakeside Church 01.07.2020

How are you feeling? How's your heart? This weekend we talked about anger and forgiveness in the start of a mini "series within a series." We're taking three weeks in our Vaccine series to talk about this one issue. It's that important! Ultimately we know that if we don't deal with anger, if we hold a grudge, if we refuse to forgive, it's going to affect us deeply. Let's journey together as we explore what it means to experience forgiveness and to forgive.... You can find the full message on our website, YouTube, or iTunes, and we hope you'll tune in online (or in person) over the next few weeks as we explore what forgiveness is, what it isn't, and how we move through the process.

It’s no secret that this Christmas doesn’t look like we thought (or hoped) it would, so what are you doing to make this season a memorable one, despite the challenges? How are you doing Christmas differently this year?

Lakeside Church 21.04.2020

Lakeside, thanks to your generosity we’ve already raised $13,000 for Wyndham House during our Christmas campaign. We are truly blessed by the outpouring of kindness and we are so close to helping them meet their $70,000 goal. You have until Dec. 31 to give by clicking on the donate tab on our website at lakesidechurch.ca and selecting Wyndham House. New Home Kit donations have also been pouring in. If you have items you’d like to donate, you can bring them to Lakeside North from 9-4 on Wednesday and 9-12 on Thursday. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of some of the most vulnerable youth in our community.

Lakeside Church 31.03.2020

As of Dec. 26, our province will be entering a mandatory lockdown. As a precaution, our Christmas Eve service will be ONLINE ONLY. Lakeside, we prepared for this. These are the very words you’ve read on our website: As this year comes to a close, here's the truth. We don’t know what stage we’ll be in on Christmas Eve. We don’t know what new directives will come from the province or the city, but we’ve created an amazing online experience for you so that no matter what happens..., we can all be HOME FOR CHRISTMAS. And Home for Christmas we will be. On Dec. 24, we invite you to gather around your television, laptop, phone (or whatever device you have available), and join us online for our Christmas Eve service at 5 or 7pm. You can participate on our website or right here on Facebook.

Lakeside North... 6-8pm If you can’t make it out tonight, you can pick up your box on Sunday morning at either location, or from Lakeside North (just pop inside the main entrance) next week.

We have an amazing little team of about 80 people known as the On Call Team. When we have a need, we text, and they respond! Every opportunity we’ve presented has been claimed in just minutes. Over the past month or so, this team has been instrumental in helping us get 500 Christmas Boxes ready for packaging ... and today, some of our On Call volunteers spent the morning filling them. We’re so thankful for this amazing group of people! And we can’t wait for you to recei...ve a Christmas Box filled with items and activities to help you embrace the beauty of this scaled back season (there’s also a special element we’ll unwrap together on Christmas Eve). Here’s what we recommend: Mark your calendar for Dec. 15, 16, 17, or 18, between 6-8pm! Grab a hot beverage! Warm up the car! Put on the Christmas tunes! Drive to Lakeside North to pick up your box! Say hello to our staff who will be waiting to greet you outside (you don’t even need to get out of your car)! Drive around and look at some Christmas lights on the way home! If evenings don’t work, you can also pick up your box at Lakeside North between 9am - 12pm (just come inside the main entrance), or pick up on Sunday morning (Dec. 13 or 20) at Lakeside North or Lakeside Downtown. All the details can be found at lakesidechurch.ca/christmas We look forward to seeing you soon!

PARENTS | How are you? Months into this global pandemic, we've had to shift our expectations, the way we do things, and how we parent our children. These days look different from anything we've ever known, and we've all experienced our share of ups and downs, but we are in this together. You are not alone ... and we want to invite you to share what's on your heart and mind these days. Join Andrea Groenewald from Five Star Relationships and Pastor Robyn Elliott for this speci...al Roundtable with a couple of our Lakeside Kids parents, Tyler Reed and Lindsay & Seth Duncan, as they talk parenting, the pandemic, and how they're coping with the challenges in front of them. We'd love for you to join the conversation. How are you coping? What are the things you've been doing to thrive during this time and what are the things (or expectations) you've had to let go of? Connection during this time is so important. If you want to connect with other families, join our Lakeside Kids Families group, or if you need counselling, you can reach out to Andrea and her team at Five Star Relationships. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylfj51fNIFU
