A note about connecting on Facebook. Over the past several days I have had the pleasure of connecting with so many people from Chilliwack-Kent and across the Pr...ovince who are excited about the change and opportunity we have created here, as well as others who are a bit nervous about what change means for them. For many Facebook is their primary way of reaching out, and I am happy to connect. However, for some Facebook has presented an opportunity to send messages that are completely inappropriate, and they seem to feel there is implied permission to send messages and pictures as though my presence and position are an invitation for objectification and sexual harassment. I want to be clear. Women (or men) in public positions are not fair game for crude sexualization or objectification. My femaleness does not represent permission or encouragement to send pictures or propositions of a sexual nature. Despite my sincere desire to connect with you all, I will be blocking anyone who sends inappropriate sexualized or sexist messages. This behaviour is disappointing and only serves to contributes to a diverse group of people feeling unsafe in stepping up and stepping forward for our great community. I have received advice that this is intended as a compliment, that I should ignore it, or that it happens. Let’s do better by calling it out and not accepting this as normal or to be expected. Farmer Sausage Penne with Fresh Tomatoes Recipe courtesy of Helluva Q Ingredients: 3 garlic cloves... 1 small onion, cut into bite size pieces 2 pints cherry tomatoes, on the vine 1 ring Johnstons Farmer Sausage, cut into pieces about 1/2" square 1 Tbsp sugar 3/4 cup olive oil 500 grams penne pasta kosher salt & freshly ground pepper fresh basil 1/4 cup parmesan cheese, freshly grated Instructions: 1. In a large pan, saute the garlic, onions, and farmer sausage in 3 tablespoons olive oil. 2. Remove and set aside. 3. Add remaining olive oil and cherry tomatoes to pan. 4. Cook over med-low heat on stove top until the tomatoes are just about falling apart and the juices have been extracted into the olive oil forming a thick sauce. About 35-40 minutes. 5. Stir in the sugar, 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil and add salt and pepper to taste. 6. Remove the stems from the tomatoes leaving one or two small bunches still on the stem to be used as a garnish. 7. Using a spoon, squash the remaining tomatoes so that they are still a little chunky. 8. Add the farmer sausage and adjust the seasoning if needed. 9. Cook pasta as per directions. Fold pasta into sauce.
