It is never too early to get a child acquainted with their dental team. Most children have some teeth by age one and most of their baby teeth by age two. Decay can start within months of eruption and accidents can occur anytime. It is recommended that children start coming to the dentist between age one and two for a chair ride and an oral exam. Our office offers free first visit appointments to patients age 3 and under, to encourage patients and their parents to have early dental education and intervention, and a healthy relationship with their dental team.

Wisdom teeth are the third set of molars that typically come in between the ages of 17 and 21. They earned that name because they grow in when people are older and wiser than when their permanent teeth grew in. Call us to schedule an appointment if you think you need to have them checked out. Remember => Drink more water Water continues to be the best beverage for your overall health including oral health. Also, as a rule of thumb, it is recommended to drink water after every meal. This can help wash out some of the negative effects of sticky and acidic foods and beverages in between brushes.

Sensitive Teeth: Common Causes and Solutions => Part 3 Demineralization Demineralization occurs when the mineral content in the tooth enamel decreases. When the enamel starts to break down, teeth become more sensitive, and its easier for plaque to infect a tooths vulnerable interior. Since enamel isnt a growing tissue, it cant be regenerated or restored once its gone. Sugary drinks and acidic foods are the main cause of demineralization, so its best to avoid them as much as possible.

Lakeview Dental 02.03.2020

Sensitive Teeth: Common Causes and Solutions => Part 2 Brushing Too Hard Brushing too hard or using a toothbrush that has hard bristles can wear down the enamel on teeth and cause the dentin to become exposed. Brushing too hard can also lead to gum recession and root exposure. This is why many dental professionals recommend that you use a soft-bristle toothbrush.

Sensitive Teeth: Common Causes and Solutions => Part 1 Developing sensitive teeth can happen to anyone. Eroded enamel or exposed roots usually cause tooth sensitivity. However, teeth can become sensitive for a variety of reasons. The following are some of the most common causes of sensitive teeth. Teeth Whitening Many people turn to teeth whitening to remove surface stains and discolouration for a whiter smile. However, what they might not realize is that those whitening treatments can also cause tooth sensitivity. Peroxide, which is one of the main ingredients in many teeth whitening products, can irritate the tooth nerve.

Tips on caring for your child's growing teeth part 2 Professional Cleanings and Exams - Bringing your child in for regular exams helps their hygienist and dentist watch for developmental and orthodontic issues that may benefit from early treatment. If youre having trouble getting your child to cooperate during brushing and flossing time, ask their hygienist or dentist to show them. Sometimes someone other than a parent or guardian can get a child to listen and learn the right technique.

Lakeview Dental 23.12.2019

Starting this week with some tips on caring for your child's growing teeth. Brushing and Flossing: Flossing might seem unnecessary when your child has large gaps between their teeth. Many people don't floss their teeth because they say they don't have the time or that it makes their gums bleed. In fact, it doesn't take long to floss and it makes for all around healthier gums. According to the Canadian Dental Association, you miss cleaning more than one-third of your tooth surface by not flossing.

Lakeview Dental 11.10.2019

Flossing helps minimize bad breath A lot of the bacteria that cause gum disease create an odour if they start to colonize in between your teeth and underneath your gums. If you minimize or eliminate the signs of gum disease, chances are your breath will smell better. Instead of stocking up on breath mints, up your flossing.

In the pink Since fluoride was added to drinking water in North America some five decades ago, fewer people in younger age groups get cavities. But fluoride can't protect against gum disease, which may begin at about age 25. The signs are hard to miss: Gums that regularly bleed with brushing or flossing Swollen or sore gums Persistent bad breath... Sensitive teeth Women are more susceptible: gum tissue responds to hormonal fluctuations and can become tender and swollen during menstruation and pregnancy.
