We have been able to show that these arts activities are not only supportive of wellbeing, but they do seem to make real differences to mental health too. The fact that there seems to be rebound between referral cycles suggests that there might be a need to help participants adjust when they exit these programs to ensure sustainability of their impact.

"Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria, or RSD for short, is a common issue experienced by Neurodivergent (ND) people. It is thought to be caused by increased difficulty in regulating our emotions, which leads to an incredibly heightened experience of rejection."

Each participant will explore their emotions using the Zones of Regulation program. They will learn to recognize and define their emotions, explore how they feel and how others feel. Lastly, participants will explore different strategies to be mindful and calm in stressful situations. They will learn how to use their Toolbox every day Every Sunday we will practice coping & self regulation skills to better manage our daily stresses & anxiety. We will explore techniques to calm our bodies & minds. We will learn to better understand, recognize & monitor our emotional feelings.
"Sensory differences are broadly recognized by autistic self-advocates with fluent speech (those of us who may have traditionally been labelled as Asperger’s or high-functioning), but I see less discussion about movement differences in neurodivergent people."
"For people on the autism spectrum like myself, connecting with others is an uphill battle and can be extremely difficult. From my own personal experiences, sometimes it’s like I can’t trust my own mind or body when I’m usually so in control and the next minute I’m just not."
Challenge your assumptions!
"Autistic empathy may work differently to non-autistic empathy. This may be because most autistic people’s sensory processing systems work differently to those of the non-autistic majority. Not just how we hear, see or taste things these differences can be quite obvious and are beginning to be more understood. "
