Celebrating MAGIC EDGES skaters Thanks to the commitment of Wendy Parsons, Janet Baker, Caroline Daugulis, Lorraine Ollson, Eleanor Rivard and Tanya Morrison Magic Edges precision teams were possible. Our very first team had 28 skaters and was coached by Kelly and Christa Alguire (daughters of Lynda Evans Alguire) and Jenn Held (daughter of Brenda Johnston Held). The popularity of precision skating grew quickly in Lambeth and soon we had two teams and another coach, Cathy ...Alguire. Share what year you skated and which program or dress was your favourite?

Lambeth Arena & Skating Program 50th Anniversary Celebration 24.07.2020

A little Lambeth Arena history After many years of fundraising by the community, the first skaters stepped on the ice in Lambeth Arena on Sunday, February 9, 1969, when it was opened for public skating. The official Grand Opening took place on Wednesday, February 12th, 1969 when a capacity crowd watched the Lambeth Junior D Flyers. The first Lambeth Skating Program skating season began in October 1969. (News-Star articles from Lambeth Historical Society)

Lambeth Arena & Skating Program 50th Anniversary Celebration 18.07.2020

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Lambeth Arena & Lambeth Skating Program, we’re looking to create a Lambeth Skating Memories page collecting pictures, videos and as many of your favourite Lambeth Arena memories as possible. Lambeth Skating program was established in October 1969 after Lynda Alguire (nee: Evans) and Bernice Reagan were approached by the local community group, LARA, to start a learn-to-skate program for both future hockey players and figures skater...s in the Lambeth community. For 50 years, LSP skaters have taken to the ice on Wednesday and Sunday from October to March. Lynda Alguire’s commitment to her community and her passion for skating has ensured the program continues today under the leadership of Christa Alguire Cox and Cathy Alguire. Memorable coaches and administrators who were key to the community program success include: Brenda Held (nee: Johnston), Lynne Matthews (nee: Johnston), Dawn Peterson (nee: Johnston) and Kelly Alguire. Wonderful skating memories were made through the years; first steps on the ice, adult lessons, power skaters who developed skills taking them to the CHL & NHL, Magic Edges synchro skaters plus numerous end of season carnivals and Solo Splashes. Please post as often as you’d like! Share with everyone you know! Our goal is to get 50 good stories to create a Lambeth Skating Program 50th Celebration Book to be donated to the Lambeth Heritage Society so the memories of the Lambeth Arena skating community are never forgotten.
