Second Chances. Queenie, our main Roo for over 2 years recently lost the battle of dominance by Charlie who is our breeding Chanteclar roo. Unfortunately for Queenie, Charlie was not looking for an assistant, so Queenie had to go. In our Respite Coop we have various old and special needs girls including last years rescues from a factory farm. We decided to try Queenie out there as he needed rehabilitation of his own. It took him a week to build up his confidence again and just started crowing the other day, albeit a much reduced version. This was a glorious scene to find him kicking up dirt and in the middle of a dust bath with the rescue girls, literally taking them under his wing. #smallfarmlife

Vacancy. With the costs of lumber skyrocketing, we salvaged fallen cedars from our hedgerows. These posts will be for vertical trellising. We left some branches and added a birdhouse to encourage our helpers to co-habitate. #farmingwithnature
