The Manor celebrated a few birthdays recently. Hope you both had happy ones Bonnie and Pauline!

Happy Earth Day! People living at the Manor worked on getting flowers potted today in recognition of Earth Day.

Marguerite and the Recreation staff planted some nasturtium seeds and got their morning glory seeds soaking over night to plant another day. Everyone at the Villa is looking forward to spring and the colourful flowers, especially after our little blast of arctic air and snow this week.

Thank you Tricia for eagerly agreeing to be redeployed from The Manor to volunteer at the Point Edward Vaccine Clinic. Numerous dedicated Long Term Care volunteers are stepping up to assist at the clinic while they wait to return to their regular duties in the Homes. Thank You ! #LambtonStrong

This week we're celebrating #NationalVolunteerWeek! While it's our second time celebrating this week apart, we appreciate all of our volunteers. The Villa celebrated "McDonald’s Day" yesterday, in recognition of one of the early McDonald’s restaurants, established in Chicago on April 15, 1955. Recreation staff arranged for Happy Meals from a Sarnia McDonald’s for lunch. The Happy Meal included a burger and fries, white or chocolate milk, a yogurt tube, a small book, coloring book and a toy. People enjoyed reminiscing about their visits to this famous burger joint with their families and friends over the years.

The International Day of Pink is an international anti-bullying event held annually on April 14. The Manor recognized this important day by encouraging people living and working in the home to wear pink. Recreation staff arranged for pink treats from Global donuts and the Dietary team provided pink lemonade. Thank you to those who organized the day and who wore PINK to celebrate inclusion and diversity. We had a wonderful ‘bucket of treats’ donated by FLAGS (Front Line Appreciation Group Sarnia). All staff names were included in the draw and the lucky winner was Kelly.

Noreen spent the morning preparing lunch to enjoy with her friend Heather, in the Family Dining Room at the Villa. This recently renovated space has a kitchen and dining area for people in the Home to use for special meals and other events. Recreation staff assisted with ordering the ingredients, after Noreen decided what she wanted to cook. The meal included Indian corn soup, fry bread and pork sandwiches.

With the warm weather last week, people living at the Manor took the opportunity to get outside and do some gardening.

People living at the Manor enjoyed several activities on Easter weekend, including an Easter egg hunt. Recreation staff hid plastic eggs around the neighbourhood which were traded in for sweet Easter treats.

People at the Villa participated in Easter activities this past weekend. A virtual Good Friday church service was provided by our Chaplain Robin. Other activities included an Easter egg hunt, making Easter themed mini cheesecakes and decorating cupcakes. We even had a visit from the Easter Bunny!

The participants of the Adult Day Program enjoyed Easter themed activities this week. Happy Easter everyone!

A few of the ladies living on Maple Ave. at the Lodge prepared dinner with the Recreation staff to enjoy together. On the menu was potato salad, fried mushrooms and BBQ steak. The beautiful Easter bouquet helped make it feel like spring.

April 1st is the official first day of the Major League baseball season. People living and working at the Villa celebrated by wearing their favourite team jersey's and the Recreation staff helped BBQ hotdogs for lunch.

This morning a great big thank you to those essential workers making Christmas as Merry as possible for the people living at the Villa, Manor and the Lodge. Everyone is missing their families this year and we are so grateful for each person’s efforts to keep our residents, staff and the Community safe. Thank you and Merry Christmas!

The Villa is happy to show off their newly renovated Family Dining Room. We have a little more decorating before its finished. The space now includes a small kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave and dishwasher. We all look forward to the day when we can welcome everyone back to use this beautiful space.

Brett made a lovely Christmas Eve breakfast for these people who live in the Rose neighbourhood at the Manor. Everyone was happy to receive an early Christmas gift.

The Adult Day Program -Sarnia Site welcomed participants back to the program last week. These gentlemen enjoyed different activities and worked hard on a fireplace project.

The participants of the Adult Day Program -Sarnia Site have been busy this past week making gifts for their families. Everyone was happy to have the opportunity to make gifts as this was much safer then going shopping in any stores.

The residents of Maple Ave at the Lodge say goodbye to 2020 and hello to 2021. We wish for good health and happiness for all in the new year!

Happy Birthday Devin! It was a happy 58th birthday for Devin at the Manor today. His significant other Sandy organized a steak & lobster takeout lunch for the two of them to enjoy together.

Merry Christmas from Petrolia Adult Day Program

The Recreation staff and residents of the Villa took advantage of the mild weather earlier this week. Our new bike is the talk of the building.

Today is World Kindness Day! People living at the Lodge decorated cookies to give to the staff to thank them for all their hard work and spread some cheer and kindness.

Increased COVID measures and lockdowns can be especially difficult for residents in long-term care facilities. A group of people who live at the Villa enjoyed a drive along the river today.

The Villa is supporting Petrolias downtown scarecrow theme. Harvest Harvey is ready to welcome visitors as they arrive.

Important COVID-19 testing update from the province today. Asymptomatic individuals should only be going for testing under the following conditions: - Contact with a CONFIRMED case... - Outbreak management as directed by public health - workers and residents of long-term care homes, visitors of long-term care homes, workers and residents of homeless shelters and other congregate settings All symptomatic individuals need to continue to be tested.

A group of ladies who live at the Lodge enjoyed a drive along the lake yesterday. Before heading home they stopped at the Juicy Fruit Farm Market to purchase pumpkins and mums for their front porch.

Happy Birthday wishes to Rossanna who recently celebrated her birthday at the Manor.

It was a beautiful sunny day for a bike ride around Forest. Madeline told her friends that it was a perfect thing to do on her 100th birthday.

Happy 100th Birthday Madeline! Madelines birthday is this Wednesday but she was very happy to receive birthday wishes when her family stopped by the Lodge today. Madeline has made a special request to the recreation staff for her birthday. She has requested a bike ride around Forest to celebrate on Wednesday afternoon. Be sure to honk and wave when you see her go by!

Some people who live at the Manor had their first bus outing this week since the pandemic began. Those on the trip decided they wanted to put their toes in the sand, so they drove over to the beach for a walk on the boardwalk.

A few people who live at the Villa recently spent a relaxing afternoon at the river. Everyone loves to watch the boats come and go under the bridge.

The Villa wished Orise a happy 101st birthday yesterday.

The Manor enjoyed music on the Poppy Patio this week with Vic & the Campfire Band

Bill enjoyed the crisp fall morning by going for a walk in the garden at the Villa.

Fun at the Villa!

Recreation staff hosted pub hour this afternoon at the Manor. A few of the gentlemen offered us a toast!

Yesterday was a busy and exciting day at the Villa. Residents and staff enjoyed a nice treat of fresh french fries for lunch from Burns Restaurant & Catering . After lunch the Sarnia Kitchen Party Band entertained in our front garden area. Being the first band to perform at the Villa since the pandemic started, the event was well attended and enjoyed by all.

Thank you Libro Credit Union - Arkona Branch for sponsoring the entertainment for the Labour Day party at the Lodge. Everyone enjoyed the wonderful weather and the music by Blast from the Past.

The residents of the Villa have some advice for students who are heading off to college and university next week. Good luck and stay healthy!

Great night to take the bike out and enjoy the evening air. The ladies enjoyed riding around the town to see all the changes in the community.

Today some people who live at the Lodge were very excited to head out for their first outing since the pandemic began. The first place they wanted to visit was the lake. Everyone was surprised to see so many trees down from the recent storms. The group then ventured on towards Thedford and onto Arkona before ending the journey back in Forest. The ladies enjoyed reminiscing along the trip with one of the ladies sharing a memory of her favourite restaurant in Thedford called Lizzys. What a great day!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Joan celebrated her 80th birthday at the Manor with a window visit from her family on Saturday.

Safe Outings were announced late yesterday by the Ontario government and residents at the Manor didn't waste any time getting out for a trip around the block.

Thankfully the shortage of toilet paper was over in time for National Toilet Paper Day, celebrated earlier this week at the Villa. Residents wanted to show their resilience and how they still find lots of ways to have fun. Recreation staff found trivia and jokes to share about our favourite paper product.

The weather was not great for outdoor activities yesterday, so residents enjoyed some creative pursuits inside at the Manor. Several people participated in a clay art project this afternoon. One person remained in her room for the class, so she joined in the fun virtually.

A staff member from the North Lambton Lodge saw the special request below on Facebook and shared it with some residents. The residents of the Lodge were excited to participate by sending cards to Jerry and hope he enjoys reading all the messages in the cards he receives. Happy Birthday Jerry!

The Villa is getting ready for a makeover, with new paint colours for all the neighbourhoods. A few of the gentlemen living on Finch Lane gave a helping hand to remove photos and other decorations from the walls in preparation.

How does your garden grow? The vegetables at the Manor are growing really well. Thanks to Paul and Kip, brothers who live at the Manor, and the Recreation staff, we have fresh produce ready for eating. Both gentlemen helped water each morning and did some online research with staff about the vegetables so they could pick them at their peak.

Thank you Western Ontario Steam Thresher's Association for including the Lodge in your parade today. The parade was extra special for some residents as they were very excited to see their family members driving tractors.

Lodge Olympics -Day 4

It was an extra sweet day at the Manor yesterday. Everyone enjoyed this sweet treat at the Watermelon Social after a few games of bingo. Look at all those smiles!

Olympic Games continued at the Lodge today. The athletes really enjoyed curling. The residents received curling tips from our summer recreation student McKenna. McKenna represented Canada in Sweden in 2019 and brought home GOLD for mixed doubles to become World Champions.

Summer Olympics at the Lodge - Day Two

This week residents of the Lodge will participate in their very own 2020 Summer Olympics. Todays events were the ring toss and the ball throw. Thank you Lenore Cates for playing the accordion and providing the back ground music during our events.

Residents of the Villa spent the afternoon sampling different types/flavours of honey. Cinnamon was the most popular flavour with everyone. Thank you Munro Honey & Meadery for donating the honey for this activity.

So grateful to be able to celebrate this wonderful ladys birthday today. Leila turned 99 years old today and requested a pajama party to celebrate. Her friends all showed up in their pj's and Leila didn't disappoint making her appearance in her onesie and then showing off her new birthday outfit. Happy Birthday Leila!

A few ladies worked together to prepare dinner for themselves at the Villa today. Tillys favourite was the bruschetta with fresh tomatoes and basil from the garden.

The residents of the Lodge spent the last few weeks making paper machet piñatas. Each neighbourhood worked together to make a piñata that would hopefully outlast the others. Yesterday it took most of the afternoon to finally knock all the treasures to the ground. Congratulations to everyone from Maple Ave, their yellow and orange piñata lasted till the very end.
