Happy Earth Day! People living at the Manor worked on getting flowers potted today in recognition of Earth Day.

Marguerite and the Recreation staff planted some nasturtium seeds and got their morning glory seeds soaking over night to plant another day. Everyone at the Villa is looking forward to spring and the colourful flowers, especially after our little blast of arctic air and snow this week.

The Villa celebrated "McDonald’s Day" yesterday, in recognition of one of the early McDonald’s restaurants, established in Chicago on April 15, 1955. Recreation staff arranged for Happy Meals from a Sarnia McDonald’s for lunch. The Happy Meal included a burger and fries, white or chocolate milk, a yogurt tube, a small book, coloring book and a toy. People enjoyed reminiscing about their visits to this famous burger joint with their families and friends over the years.

The International Day of Pink is an international anti-bullying event held annually on April 14. The Manor recognized this important day by encouraging people living and working in the home to wear pink. Recreation staff arranged for pink treats from Global donuts and the Dietary team provided pink lemonade. Thank you to those who organized the day and who wore PINK to celebrate inclusion and diversity. We had a wonderful ‘bucket of treats’ donated by FLAGS (Front Line Appreciation Group Sarnia). All staff names were included in the draw and the lucky winner was Kelly.

Noreen spent the morning preparing lunch to enjoy with her friend Heather, in the Family Dining Room at the Villa. This recently renovated space has a kitchen and dining area for people in the Home to use for special meals and other events. Recreation staff assisted with ordering the ingredients, after Noreen decided what she wanted to cook. The meal included Indian corn soup, fry bread and pork sandwiches.

With the warm weather last week, people living at the Manor took the opportunity to get outside and do some gardening.

People living at the Manor enjoyed several activities on Easter weekend, including an Easter egg hunt. Recreation staff hid plastic eggs around the neighbourhood which were traded in for sweet Easter treats.

People at the Villa participated in Easter activities this past weekend. A virtual Good Friday church service was provided by our Chaplain Robin. Other activities included an Easter egg hunt, making Easter themed mini cheesecakes and decorating cupcakes. We even had a visit from the Easter Bunny!

A few of the ladies living on Maple Ave. at the Lodge prepared dinner with the Recreation staff to enjoy together. On the menu was potato salad, fried mushrooms and BBQ steak. The beautiful Easter bouquet helped make it feel like spring.

April 1st is the official first day of the Major League baseball season. People living and working at the Villa celebrated by wearing their favourite team jersey's and the Recreation staff helped BBQ hotdogs for lunch.

The Villa is happy to show off their newly renovated Family Dining Room. We have a little more decorating before its finished. The space now includes a small kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave and dishwasher. We all look forward to the day when we can welcome everyone back to use this beautiful space.

Happy 100th Birthday Madeline! Madelines birthday is this Wednesday but she was very happy to receive birthday wishes when her family stopped by the Lodge today. Madeline has made a special request to the recreation staff for her birthday. She has requested a bike ride around Forest to celebrate on Wednesday afternoon. Be sure to honk and wave when you see her go by!

Some people who live at the Manor had their first bus outing this week since the pandemic began. Those on the trip decided they wanted to put their toes in the sand, so they drove over to the beach for a walk on the boardwalk.

Yesterday was a busy and exciting day at the Villa. Residents and staff enjoyed a nice treat of fresh french fries for lunch from Burns Restaurant & Catering . After lunch the Sarnia Kitchen Party Band entertained in our front garden area. Being the first band to perform at the Villa since the pandemic started, the event was well attended and enjoyed by all.

Today some people who live at the Lodge were very excited to head out for their first outing since the pandemic began. The first place they wanted to visit was the lake. Everyone was surprised to see so many trees down from the recent storms. The group then ventured on towards Thedford and onto Arkona before ending the journey back in Forest. The ladies enjoyed reminiscing along the trip with one of the ladies sharing a memory of her favourite restaurant in Thedford called Lizzys. What a great day!

Thankfully the shortage of toilet paper was over in time for National Toilet Paper Day, celebrated earlier this week at the Villa. Residents wanted to show their resilience and how they still find lots of ways to have fun. Recreation staff found trivia and jokes to share about our favourite paper product.

The weather was not great for outdoor activities yesterday, so residents enjoyed some creative pursuits inside at the Manor. Several people participated in a clay art project this afternoon. One person remained in her room for the class, so she joined in the fun virtually.

The Villa is getting ready for a makeover, with new paint colours for all the neighbourhoods. A few of the gentlemen living on Finch Lane gave a helping hand to remove photos and other decorations from the walls in preparation.

How does your garden grow? The vegetables at the Manor are growing really well. Thanks to Paul and Kip, brothers who live at the Manor, and the Recreation staff, we have fresh produce ready for eating. Both gentlemen helped water each morning and did some online research with staff about the vegetables so they could pick them at their peak.

Olympic Games continued at the Lodge today. The athletes really enjoyed curling. The residents received curling tips from our summer recreation student McKenna. McKenna represented Canada in Sweden in 2019 and brought home GOLD for mixed doubles to become World Champions.

A few ladies worked together to prepare dinner for themselves at the Villa today. Tillys favourite was the bruschetta with fresh tomatoes and basil from the garden.

The residents of the Lodge spent the last few weeks making paper machet piñatas. Each neighbourhood worked together to make a piñata that would hopefully outlast the others. Yesterday it took most of the afternoon to finally knock all the treasures to the ground. Congratulations to everyone from Maple Ave, their yellow and orange piñata lasted till the very end.
