It's National Volunteer Week! Thank you LEO Volunteers!! LEO recognizes the impact in our clients lives on a daily basis through the work of our volunteers! But it doesn’t stop there; our Board of Director’s volunteer commitment support LEO’s excellence in governance practices. Thank you for your expertise and dedication. During the 1st Emergency Phase of COVID-19, LEO was inundated with calls from the community asking how they can help: some assisted with pandemic polic...ies/planning/admin tasks and some assisted with our extensive increase in Meals on Wheels deliveries. Volunteers aided with the emergency grocery shopping/delivery program. A special THANK YOU to all who ensure our seniors safely continue to receive their meals. CHEERS to our Christmas campaign shoppers, wrappers, and deliveries. To all our active Volunteers ‘on pause’ due to programs currently on hold, LEO truly appreciates your patience, ecstatic you will remain onboard with us and hope to see you back in the saddle again soon! LEO is so proud to recognize our dedicated volunteers for their commitment and we are privileged to have them onboard! Our heartfelt gratitude to our Volunteers who continually lift the spirits of our clients with their unending support.

Due to unforeseen licensing issues the LEO Ford F-150 Truck draw will be postponed until August 31, 2021. We assure you the draw will take place and your entry is still valid. Ticket sales have paused at this time to address. LEO will be contacting ticket holders; with respect to the needs of our clients, please refrain from calling the office about this matter. I assure you we will be in touch. If you do not hear from us by March 31st, please contact the office. Please be patient with us while we rectify this issue. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your continued support of LEO, the Kidney Foundation and MS Society of Canada. Again, we sincerely apologize for your disappointment and this delay.

How do you find enough words to thank so many community members who came forth to support our Christmas Campaign this year? It is almost impossible! People donated money, their time, gifts and crafts showcasing their many talents; beautiful quilted lap blankets and placemats, knitted and crocheted afghans. Hand-sewn masks, napkins, hand warmers and hand exercisers; hours of time creating these thoughtful items. One gentleman exclaimed that his favourite part of his gift was... the hand-sewn mask he could reuse! Some created handcrafted cards for seniors to give to others, some wrote cards and letters for them to read and children made cards and letters as well. LEO would like to thank every one of you for taking the time, making the effort and creating beautiful gifts that were absolutely enjoyed by all. A huge shout out to Shell Manufacturing Canada who provided a generous corporate donation, Luina Local 1089 for their kind contribution, as well as The United Way of Sarnia-Lambton for assisting us once again! Many thanks! Due to social distancing and wearing masks, a lot of people chose not to have their photos taken this year, but trust me when I say there are so many expressions of thanks coming into the office every day since someone has received their gift; teary phone calls of gratitude and cards of thanks. For some, this is the only gift they receive each year and we all want to make it special for them; we cannot thank you enough for your kind and generous support. Our heartfelt gratitude to all who participated; bless you. Your thoughtfulness has truly made a difference in someone's life. Below are a some of the many hand crafted items included in this year’s gift bags.

Along with her 20 years of leadership experience, Reaume-Zimmer has earned a Doctorate in Healthcare Administration. We are confident that she brings the knowledge, skills and commitment to the Sarnia-Lambton community, which will lead LEO in advancing our vision To provide excellent support services to the community we serve, added Williams. I have so much respect for the care that our community teams are providing, and appreciate the challenges they are faced with. I look forward to becoming involved in an organization that is dedicated to ensuring individuals can remain at home safely, and as long as possible. For the last seven years, I’ve seen the patient benefits of an integrated leadership model that is focused on improving transitions of care, and will continue with this effort as the CEO of LEO, said Reaume-Zimmer. CMHA Lambton-Kent is excited about the opportunity to build on our existing partnership with Bluewater Health, and our already excellent relationship with Lambton Elderly Outreach. Together our three organizations will create a more client-centered approach to care in the community, said Alan Stevenson, CEO, CMHA LK. LEO Gives Back Recently Lambton Elderly Outreach held a Chili-To-Go fundraiser in support of the United Way of Sarnia-Lambton. This activity was held as LEO’s way of giving back. LEO is funded in part by The United Way and these funds are dedicated to our Transportation services and Meal on Wheels program by way of subsidy to those who qualify. The staff of LEO extend our sincere gratitude to the United Way of Sarnia-Lambton for their continued support, and in particular ...their immediate response to assisting LEO during the emergency phase of COVID-19. Their assistance enabled LEO to continue to deliver the essential services to our most vulnerable clients during this critical time. LEO is honored to ‘Give-Back’ to an organization that contributes so much to the community. We wish The United Way of Sarnia-Lambton great success in this year’s campaign and offer our heartfelt thanks for everything they do for LEO and the community. LEO Christmas Gift Campaign to Isolated Clients in Jeopardy Please SHARE this message. Fundraising goal of $2000 to purchase 80 gifts, plus wrappings. Any donations above $2000 will carry forward to next year’s campaign. (Donation details below) ... Each year, LEO is approached by various campaigns who assist by purchasing gifts for our isolated seniors. Without a doubt, COVID has affected this year’s campaign. We must make every effort to push on for the sake of those in need as this is affecting approximately 80 clients not receiving a gift. Therefore, LEO is putting together a team of staff and volunteers to make this year’s campaign successful. 2020 has been hard enough on everyone and for these folks who look forward to a gift each year, we cannot disappoint. I can attest that the gift that LEO delivers to clients, is the ONLY gift that some of them will receive. Some clients actually call the office to see if they are getting a gift year. I have literally been brought to tears upon receiving phone calls and letters of gratitude because this gift meant so much to them. One isolated gentleman who received a box of cookies with his gift said, I better save these in case someone has time to visit. Can you help to put a smile on someone’s face, brighten their day and help them to feel remembered? You can also drop off a Christmas card or letter with a message if you like and we’ll ensure they go into a package. So many ideas. While it seems early to start shopping, there is much to do to organize and to ensure safety protocols are in place for everyone involved. Because no one knows what the colder weather will bring this year and how heavy the 2nd Wave could be we need to act fast! You can donate by e-transfer, online donations, cash at the office, or send a cheque. **IMPORTANT NOTICE** COVID-19 has affected everyone’s fundraising campaigns this year which have all been significantly impacted by the pandemic. The County of Lambton, by authorization through OLG, has allowed lottery licenses to be extended up to 6 months.... Due to this, the LEO Fundraising committee has made the decision to extend the Cash Calendar draw dates from Sept 1st to January 1st. The new draw dates will be Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr 2021 and new calendars dates will be provided. The LEO Truck Raffle will also be extended to January 15th, 2021. This was a business decision made with respect to the hours put in by volunteers as well as the business donating to our cause and it was felt that we owed it to everyone involved to make every effort possible to have a most successful fundraiser to maximize the benefit of the charities involved.
