Jurassic Park changed a lot of kids lives. For Jeremia Kenneth Chandra Kusuma, it made him want to be a dinosaur for a few years. Then fate intervened and his parents brought home a BBC DVD about how the show Walking with Dinosaurs was created. When Jeremia saw how the team behind the show brought these prehistoric creatures to life, it inspired him to walk his own path into the world of animation. I started to study every animal's movement and how their muscles would sh...ape and react to such movements, I would even act like them to get the feels. Humans are no exception, especially in our faces that have many complicated muscles. I am thankful that I’m continuing my study at CEA. CEA has been very supportive towards their students, and the lecturers are very knowledgeable in their field. Every question that I give, they will have the answer. I could say that from the four Colleges that I have attended, CEA stands on top of them. Jeremia understands the importance of networking and how developing your professional network opens new pathways to success. Before CEA, I was trying my best to get my feet into the industry. Every day, I committed myself to at least one post, one comment, one interaction, and I would force myself to share something on LinkedIn. From my commitments, I was able to meet a lot of professionals that were happy to share their knowledge. Day by day, I saw that my profile was getting noticed, and then one day out of the blue, someone from Unity contacted me. I felt so happy, nervous, and excited. I worked a gig with Unity and even though I had the opportunity to continue working, I decided to finish my education. More studios began reaching out to me and one day, I saw an email from Squidbrain's Producer. This is the first step where I will prove my skills to the world until the day, I get to rig a dinosaur for a feature" Jeremia is an inspiration to his fellow students, and we look forward to watching his future Dinosaur bring joy and ignite the imagination of kids from around the world. #langaracea #animation #rigging #squidbrainstudios #vancouver #calgary #canada

Animators in the digital realm tell stories through the application of intricate layers of data onto complex 3D digital skeletons. They spend their lives analyzing and articulating movement, creating dramatic sequences, adding nuance. One can spend their entire career mastering their craft, working on award winning television, video games or movies and yet, the opportunity to work on a project that shines the light on matters of extreme cultural importance doesn’t come alon...g very often. CEA Student Xiaoqing Wang had this to say. The experience of working on cops and robbers has made me a better me. In the year 2020, with everything happening around the world, I've thought to myself many times, is there anything I, as an individual can do? Then the chance came to me, to be a part of this incredible project for BLM movement is truly an honour. The CEA team led by Jason Snyman and Paul PB. Bwengye where able to successfully navigate the compressed schedule and complex demands of the project. Supervising students on Timothy Ware’s Cops And Robbers made me proud to use my abilities to shine a light on a racial situation that, in some cases I used to turn a blind eye to because it was painful to watch, read, listen to or be a victim of. The students did an amazing job and I’m super proud of every single one of them on the team. I would love to thank Langara Center for Entertainment arts for the opportunity to supervise the students on Cops and Robbers, said Paul PB. Bwengye. The result of this massive collaboration consisting of over 30 individual artists, students and VFX companies from around the world? Cops and Robbers is being put forward by Netflix for Oscar contention. Proof that it is possible to affect change through guided action. Thank you, for allowing your students to participate and for the wonderful artistry and creation! The segment you guys created is so powerful and fits perfectly into that section of the video. I can’t thank you all enough for taking this on and being part of Cops and Robbers Co-Director Arnon Manor.

The Langara Centre for Entertainment Arts enters into its second year this fall. The 2019-2020 school year proved that our community is powerful, and even with everything that we came up against this past year, we still managed to thrive. We are proud to welcome over 100 new students this September, and our online learning model continues to be a bridge over troubled waters until we can learn together, in person, once again.... We continue to develop our student work initiative program and look forward to seeing our first round of graduates move into the industry and make their mark. Thank you to our students, faculty, instructors and program directors, and our incredible IT department for the focus and determination you have shown during these complex and challenging times. The future we are building together will no doubt be filled with limitless possibilities. #vancouver #canada #gamedesign #vfx #animation #gametechnology #langaracollege #langaracea #studyabroad #study

Mian Zhang, who is currently enrolled in our Foundations program shares with us a stunning photo from her portfolio that she captured at the BC Court building, located near Robson Square in downtown Vancouver. Foundation in Entertainment Arts is a fulltime, one-year program that prepares students for advanced studies in the entertainment arts. You will learn how to observe, interpret and communicate in professional visual languages. CEA Foundations teaches students drawing... fundamentals, sculpting, basic photography, colour theory and design principles. You will develop a critical eye and produce meaningful art works in both 2D and 3D forms. The program will help you to discover your passion and narrow your focus. Students are encouraged to build on specific strengths and identify a clear vision for their future in the entertainment arts. Foundations Program Director Ed Ko @edkoart, edkoart.com, had this to say about the advantage of studying the fundamental aspects of art in a city like Vancouver. There are not that many major cities in the world where you will be able to stand on a beach, watch a large ocean liner pass in front of you, with snowcapped mountain in the background. While everyone can appreciate this image, being a Foundation student here means you will have the tools to actively capture what's all around you, whether it is with a camera, a paint brush, or just a simple pencil. Contact us at [email protected] for more information about our Foundations in Entertainment Arts Certificate Program. Your future starts now. #langara #langaracea #vancouver #educational #educationmatters #justice #studyabroad #studyincanada #drawingsketch #photographylovers #photographyislife #sculpture #vancity #yvr

The CEA is proud to have played host to PXR 2020 over the course of the past two weekends and we are thrilled to support Alex Dault, a student currently enrolled in his second year of our Advanced Game Design Diploma Program to help bring PXR to virtual reality. Alex had this to say about the event. PXR 2020 was a national conference that brought together artists from across Canada into virtual reality over the course of four days. The power of virtual reality allowed f...or people to dawn a VR headset and be in the same room as other people from all over Canada to experience and discuss their artistic process and how they create art in XR. We were fortunate to have a diverse group of presenters and panelists come together to entertain, enlighten and inspire and we feel a huge sense of gratitude to all of our sponsors and conference partners that made this event possible. Congrats to everyone that was involved in the first ever PXR and we look forward to seeing all the technological and artistic advancements that will be showcased in PXR 2021. #pxr2020 #langara #langaracea #virtualreality #canadacounsilforthearts #vancouver #studyabroad #gametechnology

The CEA presents our second Advanced VFX Student showcase from the 2019-2020 school year. Our first reel demonstrated how VFX can be used to create adversarial relationships with limited interaction as the CG characters and creations where more ambient and less interactive. This collection of student projects requires more interaction between the actor and the CG element causing heightened complexity and an increased amount of layers needing to be harmonized within the ...final comp in order to sell the visual and reinforce the narrative. In year two, students are now utilizing all the skills they acquired in year one, and are being challenged to produced more advanced VFX compositions, with higher visual fidelity, more detailed and complex CG elements, as well as more realistic and interactive lighting. We look forward to seeing their work in the coming months and throughout the 2020-2021 school year! Reach out to [email protected] for more info about our Advanced VFX Diploma Program. #langara #langaracea #vfx #nuke #studyabroad #vancouver
