Although only one piece of art was selected for today's newspaper, we had so many wonderful options to select from. Thank you so much to the kids from our nearby elementary school for their lovely submissions! Which one is your favourite?

Shout out to Botanus Inc. in Langley for their amazing donation of Spring Bulbs last fall. Our Master Gardener planted them and they have made our courtyard garden a beautiful place for the residents and staff to enjoy. Thank you so much!

Nation Volunteer Week is this week, April 18th 24th. The Value of One the Power of Many! Here is a nice message from Jude our Coordinator of Volunteers and Seniors Peer Outreach, "As we enter National Volunteer Week (April 18th April 24th), I find myself thinking of all the amazing volunteers that we have had the privilege of welcoming into Langley Lodge. These volunteers dedicate their time for the good of others. Some are retired, some are still working and volunteer a...round their busy schedules. We also have our students volunteering here to gain experience towards their career goals and want to learn from the best. This poster is one I held as our amazing volunteers provided an uplifting ‘Drive By’ last year in June. This still warms our hearts as we recall this wonderful gesture. Unfortunately, volunteers are still not permitted to return to the lodge due to Covid-19 restrictions. As soon as we can, I will be holding a new sign of Welcome Back Volunteers!! In the meantime, Thank You to all volunteers everywhere. You're good deeds and kindness is priceless!" See more

To help support staff appreciation initiatives and a variety of resident programs; our very own Stefanie came up with the idea to sell hoodies with our branding on them. They are offered in all sizes and in four different shades of blue. Please consider purchasing one. It all goes to a great cause and they're super comfortable! Here is the link to buy them through our website: http://langleylodge.org/events

A little late on an Easter post, but we just got the photos together! For Easter this year, 20 participants of our Seniors Peer Outreach Program received an Easter Care package along with a fun activity "Paint your plant pot". We turned this into a fun contest and will have 3 of our residents select their favourite for the win. Stay tuned! Special Thanks to our volunteer Easter Bunny, Heather for her time.

Although we do have some hope that our New2U Sales will happen in-person this year, we have found a workaround until such a time. These fundraisers done by our Auxiliary help us purchase capital equipment and support important projects done here, so without them, it has been difficult. In the spirit of new ideas, we are trying to go about our book sales in a unique way. Carol of our Auxiliary has put together an online list of all gently used books that she has stored off-sit...e and if you are interested in purchasing them at $1 each, please click on this link below and add your initials in the "Reserved Column" as well as an email or phone number you can be reached at. If you do not want your email or phone number to be seen publicly, you can send her an email to tell her which initials are yours, so she can mark down how to bundle them for pick-up day! https://docs.google.com//1IT0gCm4h_pYmKRQIGjpctvUrxP/edit All pick-ups will happen outside of our entrance here on March 13 at 10am and will be pre-bundled for you. P.S. It does not seem to let you edit the document on mobile devices, so please use on laptops or desktops.

You've likely heard of these rapid testing kits, but what are they all about? Rapid tests are that extra layer of the screening process that we would love to have. These 15-minute tests are something we will primarily use on essential visitors at Langley Lodge to feel reassured that they are not asymptomatically carrying the virus. This system is rather costly, and being a non-profit, it is not something we can easily afford. We are looking at a $2100 fee for both the analyze...r and the first 30 testing kits. Would you know anyone, or you yourself, be willing to help us work towards purchasing this? Please click the Donate button below! All donations are provided with a charitable receipt, so remember to keep it for tax time!

The #TimsForGood van swung by to drop off 10 coffee carafes and 15 baked items for us. What an incredibly thoughtful gesture! We are so appreciative to Tim Hortons for providing our care staff with more fuel (coffee). This Van has travelled across Canada distributing coffee to all sorts of organizations and we were one of the lucky stops!

As we near the anniversary of our COVID-19 lockdown, we reflect upon an immensely difficult year like none of us have witnessed in our lifetime. Looking back at our 2020 timeline, we are reminded of one year of restrictions, protocols, active screening, and how we have missed the social times together and the Celebrations of Life of our elders who have passed since the pandemic began a year ago. We acknowledge the sacrifices of our staff, elders and our families of elders, t...o keep everyone safe. All of you carried the stress and worries of the pandemic with you, as you continued to provide care and support for those who needed you more than ever. You had many fears about our residents, and also for yourselves and your own families. Despite the overwhelming challenges brought on by COVID-19, the Langley Lodge team spirit ruled, as we faced each day together with a common purpose, to get through this and see the end of it. We were so fortunate for the ongoing support of our local community. We were showered with messages of encouragement and hope. We received an abundance of gifts delivered to our door: flowers, food and song, and local folks standing outside with music and banners reaching us with a spirit of togetherness. It was this support that kept us going during the toughest days. Now we look forward to brighter days ahead. We have been immunized! We see the glimmer of light again, and we look forward to welcoming our families back into Langley Lodge, your loved one's home when the good news arrives from our provincial leaders. Thank you for your commitment to our elders and your ongoing support. This video is meant to honour those that we lost in 2020.

Feed the Vancouver Healthcare Heroes and Vy's Pho out of Fort Langley donated individually packaged meals for ALL of our care staff in early 2020. They did this out of the kindness of their hearts to show support, something we have not forgotten. Much to the surprise of all staff here on Sunday, they brought in another truckload of meals. They have asked for nothing in return, only making the comment that it is important to share during the Lunar New Year.

Today is International Women's Day, a global day of recognition celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women and girls, and raising awareness of the work left to be done. We at Langley Lodge support the intent of this day and this movement. Let this be a day of unity, celebration, reflection, advocacy and action.

The outpouring of support from our community keeps coming in! We received 250 Christmas cards from kids whose parents, grandparents or relatives are members of the Yorkson/Willboughby Mom Playdate Group, as well as students from the Delta School District at Gray Elementary (K-to-Grade 7). Angela who works at Gray Elementary and a member of the Mom's Playdate Group helped to organize all of this and said the following, "It so warms my heart that our little village could come together to share a fun experience of spreading joy to your seniors. We want to wish everyone at Langley Lodge a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thank you for the opportunity. I am already planning our next opportunities to show some love to these lovely seniors of yours." Such an incredibly kind gesture! Thank you.

We're always up for trying new technology that will improve the quality of life for our elders. The Amazon Echo Show is a smart device focused around a digital screen/camera, instead of the other Echo devices which do not have a visual component. We would like to try one or two of these Echo Show's with our residents and see if they can be used for easy video chatting with families. They are currently $300 on Amazon, and if we can get enough donations together we'd love to give it a whirl. Please consider donating through the button below.

#LangleyGives is a partnership between Langley businesses and local charities who take pride in the giving spirit of Langley residents. Their mission is to celebrate and promote Volunteerism and philanthropy being done every day right here at home. Have any artists in the house? They are currently running a colouring contest that has a few fun prizes. Check out Langley Gives to keep on top of it, or visit this link: https://langleytimes.secondstreetapp.com/ShowTheLove-Share/

We have had a massive outpouring of support in the form of many, many Christmas cards. From schools, to community Facebook groups; these decorated cards have been arriving daily and we are thrilled! Our Recreation Team have been facilitating a program they call Christmas Cards & Cookies, where small groups of elders come together and read aloud their cards, all the while enjoying some freshly baked cookies. What a treat! Thank you to our incredible community once again for making our elders feel so special this year. And yes, we do have some residents here that do not have family. These kind gestures are what make their Christmas special.

Every year, London Drugs collects donations from their shoppers and staff for Langley Lodge residents. This year, these gifts also benefited elders in our community. This past weekend, our Senior Peer Outreach Program participants were delight to receive their Christmas Care Packages. Another highlight was the D-Fyance dragon boat team out of the Fort Langley Canoe Club who also joined in with some incredible gifts for isolated seniors in our community. Thank you so much to both of you!

Langley Lodge 08.11.2020

We began Remembrance Day with a speech from our Recreation Manager, followed by a poem read by a resident, 2-minutes of silence, a resident playing O Canada on the piano, and a few songs performed by a local bagpiper in our Courtyard. Thank you Aiden for coming in to honour our five Veterans. Lest we forget.

Our friends at Leef and Stem were one of the main providers of Soups for staff when we were going through our outbreak in May and June. This amazing local business has just experienced a flood that has forced them to shutdown. If you are looking for a gift to give this holiday season, a gift card for Leef & Stem would make for an excellent option! https://linktr.ee/Leefandstem

The Costco Langley team reached out to us and asked if we needed anything for our residents this holiday season, so we provided an extensive wish list. We definitely did not expect to get the ENTIRE LIST filled. Thank you so much to the staff at Costco for bagging and delivering all of these wonderful gifts to us. Our residents will love them. PS: These photos do not do the actual quantities justice. There's also food that we had to put in our cooler and didn't get photos of.
