Sale prepping day! Today was a stress free day as we sorted, tagged & weighed our 2020 calf crop. We CCIA tagged everyone. Sorted steers separate to heifers. Then weighed to get an average weight. ... These calves have been on grain for 3 months and are outstanding. This was our best year for average daily gain. This will be our heaviest calf crop that we have had out of March - May born calves. These steers and a select few heifers SELL FRIDAY at PROVOST ALBERTA. We also will have 30 head of replacement heifers to sell privately (700 - 800 lbs weights)

Whatta crazy day! Not the best time to bring cattle home but we weren’t left with much other option. The girls were wanting to go home from their 1st grazing site. With still lots of feed left their, the snow was way over a foot deep now covering it. To our advantage though they moved super easy to their corn grazing site where they will stay for the next few months and will put us nicely into 2021 before having to start feeding

Green feed is well under way!! Weather has been treating us well enough to hammer out lots of bales before the rain! And our sunsets treat us even better

Sad to see them go... but love to watch them leave! One of our large uniform groups of feeder calves are off to Provost AB to sell on Friday! This group of 2019 calves had an excellent year. They all had a high rate of gain with excellent distribution of muscling & frame structure. This was one of our first years without creep feeding during their time at pasture, this gave the calves time to work on growing their frame instead of filling out. We are always looking to impr...ove each year on selling the best calves possible. Putting off creep feeding for a longer time will be a potential consideration for our 2020 calves in the future. Overall very pleased with how they turned out! Now to focus on finishing up on spring calving

There’s been a few people ask about this piece of equipment in our yard.... Do you know what this is? This is a round bale tumble bug wagon!... There’s very few in Canada & even fewer people that still use them. A product made in the USA that we use to supplement our cows out on winter grazing. This tumble bug is one of our risk management tools we use if something was to ever happen to our tractor. Where the situation became that we were unable to use to feed. We also use the tumble bug for hauling a bale to lead the cows when we walk them home

Hey there Ellen Degeneres and/or anyone else that is embracing #Beneateatlessmeat: I wanted to personally talk to you about being a Cattle Rancher and what yo...ur statements mean to me and how they impact my family and thousands of other cattle families in America. First of all, "it is great for the planet" might be a little broad and need some more explanation. Because; if you are suggesting that manufacturing more processed food like faux burgers and other manufactured food, you should look into the process of manufacturing. Then you can ask yourself if it is possible to manufacture without electricty and transportation. Because, last I checked the US GHG emissions in 2016 stated that electricity produced 28% of the total emissions and transportation produced another 28% of emissions, while all of the agriculture industry produced 9% and animal only rounding out at 3.9%. I like you Ellen, I really always have. But, am slightly disappointed in your personal platform versus fact checking. Next, Eating less meat is better for your health." Actually, no... A 3 oz serving of beef has multiple essential nutrients and has approximately half of your daily value of protein! To get that daily value of 25 grams of protein you would need to consume 3 cups of quinoa, 7 tablespoons af peanut butter, 4 string cheese, 1.5 cups of tofu, 95 peanuts or 2 cups of black beans. Calorie for calorie beef is one of the most nutrient-rich foods. Your third "bullet-point statement" if you will, had me chuckle a bit. "It is better for the animal," Well, yes clearly if we stop eating meat, less animals will be produced and it will in turn be less animals slaughtered. I get that. But, coming from someone that works tirelessly to care for these animals, I can tell you that while they are on my ranch, their care is top-notch. From morning to night, these animals are our priority. What they are eating, what they are drinking, making sure that they aren't stressed. They have their own veterinarian on speed dial. (Who jokes that we pay his children’s college tuition with the amount of money we pay him to tend to our animals). To top it off, they get 5 whole months per year in a serene mountain setting, full of lush grasses, fresh streams and clean air (away from all of those emissions that are looming over us). I mean, I guess they are still in the presence of their own farts. But, that is about it. If you took the time to do some research on American Cattle Ranchers, I can assure you that your opinion of our lifestyle would change. Until you watch a 5-year old cowboy rise with the sun to bottle feed a calf that has been abandoned by its mother, or watched in the bitter cold a 10-year old cowboy bring multiple calves in from the elements to warm them, comfort them and keep them alive, you will never understand what caring for our animals means to us. When you see your husband in the late hours of night trying to bale a field of hay before the rain starts, you will never know what it is like to be a cattle rancher. Until you’ve doctored a broken legged calf, you can’t speak to the treatment of our animals. Until you watch what ranching has done for your children's work ethic, knowledge of the circle of life, drive for success, compassion for animals and their neighbors, you will not know how ranching has impacted our lives. But, I can assure you- if you continue to utilize your fame to create a platform against meat, you will watch as our ranches crash from beef sales dropping and you will get to see what it is to ruin a cattle rancher and how that has impacted our lives. PS, While you are up there on that soap box, you may want to mention the following things so, your fans get the real idea behind what cattle producers provide. Here are some hashtags that will be real catchy for your campaign. #dontusebasketballs- 1 cowhide produces 12 basketballs. (don't you make money off of shows that host athletes)? #dontplaybaseball- 1 cowhide produces 144 baseballs or 12 mitts. (don't you make money off of shows that host athletes)? #dontwatchfootball- 1 cowhide produces 20 footballs. (don't you make money off of shows that host athletes)? #forgetaboutvolleyball- 1 cowhide produces 18 volleyballs. (don't you make money off of shows that host athletes)? #donteventhinkaboutitsoccerplayers-1 cowhide produces 18 soccer balls. (don't you make money off of shows that host athletes)? #sayonarajello- Byproducts are used to make Jell-O, gum, fruit snacks and marshmallows. #byebyefirstaid- Byproducts are used for ointments and first aid cream #nomorebandaidsforbooboos- Byproducts are used for the adhesive portion of band-aids. #nomorewipingyourbutt- Byproducts are used for toilet paper. The list goes on: Laundry pre-treatment, insulin, dog food, glue, soaps, lotions, shaving cream, deodorants, candles, crayons, antifreeze, hydraulic break fluid, anti-rejection drugs for transplant patients, belts, car seats, wallets, shoes and make-up. By the way, I really enjoy your commercials endorsing certain make-up companies and I must say, you have great taste in leather loafers. Did you know that covergirl is owned by Coty, a parent company that tests their product on animals? Would ya look at that? #Thanksforsupportingthecattleindustryellen #DONTMESSWITHAMERICANCATTLERANCHERS #YOUUSECATTLEPRODUCTSDAILY I have attached some photos that clearly show how our cattle are treated. If there is a better life for them, please tell me where because, I am going myself! **This seems to be an issue with packers. Maybe instead of deterring people from eating meat, you should be petitioning for stricter regulations regarding the treatment of animals at the packer**
