In the Lao community, we really know how to socialize; over good food, drinks and fun topics of conversation. What’s not always easy though is opening up to talk about our mental health and what we personally wrestle with. It’s okay to not be okay. It’s natural to feel "off balance" at times: for example to feel sad, worried, scared or anxious. Dealing with the pandemic has especially been hard for everyone. You’re not alone. Reach out to a family member, friend or co-worke...r. Their support may be all you need. But if your problem continues, it may help to speak to someone who is not connected to your life - a mental health care provider with whom you feel safe. Deng immigrated to Canada from Laos in 1980, along with her 14 siblings.... My husband and I have worked long hours as general labourers for over 40 years, trying to save what we could for our family. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the mother of two adult children and grandmother to two grandchildren was laid off from her job last spring. While unemployed and praying her luck would turn around, Deng continued to play the same lottery numbers she had been for the past two decades, which she said came to her husband one night in a dream. Deng said she was ecstatically happy and crying at the same time" when she found out she won the $60-million jackpot from the Dec. 1, 2020 draw. I have always prayed for a blessing that my family would be taken care of.
