A big, squooshy thank-you to all the volunteers, organizers of the @sunshinecoastartcrawl AND sponsors @sunshineccu & @longmandevelopments all of whom bring this annual event together, mixing up all and putting on display ALL the mediums of the Coast. And thank-you also to the brave Crawlers who came out on the weekend to visit La Petite Souris chocolate. What an exciting and surprisingly busy weekend given the weather. Seems to me there's always some kind of a weath...er event.... but nothing, not snow, not rain, nor heat or gloom of night stays these crawlers from their appointed rounds. Easter Tradition: Hot Crossed Bun Truffle A white chocolate butter ganache, studded with candied orange peel, cinnamon, cloves, macerated raisins... ... I keep these images on my desk. They're postcards and found pieces I've collected and saved over the years. I realized recently the images speak (in no particular order) to: how I see myself, how I imagine people see me and how I wish I could see (be) myself. It's interesting to watch who's leading day to day,... hour to hour, moment to moment. Who's making the decisions, who's in charge today? It's always changing. We are not static beings. All this to say, sometimes managing emotions is a complicated artistry, keeping in concert with everything else that we do. I thought I’d be past amateur level by now. Just back from a little sojourn into qathet Regional District. This was a much needed break from the tight little loop of home, work and the grocery store I've been circling for the past couple of months. Oh, and the impossibly fast (sometimes slow) hamster wheel of doom that is my mind on instagram/ global crisis of your choice. This summer has been one of many questions, "failures" (more on that later), identity crisis (maybe more on that later) and problem solving in ...a vacuum. In a time when an algorithm is doing a lot of thinking for us, and AI is pervasive, Covid keepin us scared and God knows what next in the usa, and our own Canadian disappointments, I know I'm not alone in feeling a bit.. A D R I F T But on the flip side, I'm in real gratitude to be here in this turbulent time, witnessing (and learning) foundational changes in the way humans understand each other & the planet & to have the privilege to be able to be a visitor to these quiet places (Tla'amin land) to listen to the wind and the water. We are back, and what does that mean? Shop is open for business from Tues-Saturdays for social distanced shopping with one family group at a time. We're protocol-ing and sanitizing to the max and we don't like it, but... you do what you gotta do. Masks appreciated. It's been a good summer here at the shop. I finally bit the bullet and got some cooling in here, so... product wasn't melting and neither were we. As a result of this next level of commitment, we were busy and... ...as you probably didn't notice I didn't have a lot of time or energy for social media posts. (Way too much screen time these days so I took a big break!) But rest assured, we are here and lots of great stuff is rolling your way this season.
