You may have noticed that several of our items are donated by The Angel’s Loft. Many Core Members work at The Angel’s Loft, located in Orangedale, Cape Breton. ... The Angel’s Loft is named in honour of Angela Marie Cormier, a cherished member of L’Arche Cape Breton who died suddenly on May 25th, 2008. Angela was a valued employee of the Workshop and was involved in the plans for the Angel’s Loft. A visit to the Angel’s Loft will find a whirlwind of activity going on! Bernadette will be knitting some handy dishcloths, Coralee will be painting and everyone else will be doing their own work, contributing to the completion of the latest projects. We have 5 more days of bidding on these beautifully made and donated items!

It‘s Winter Games week in L‘Arche Cape Breton! The outdoor games are largely within members of the home/program only. However, the indoor games are open for all, as they are mostly done virtually! Even with all the precautions, nothing can stop us from having fun and getting creative! The theme this year is Movies/Oscars. We started off the week with a virtual Community Night, and each team shared their cool and inventive posters representing their movie of choice! Go ...Teams go! #FosterAVibrantCommunity #LarcheLife #WinterGames #LArcheOscars2021

How does our garden grow? Through winter apparently. With the milder weather so far, the Sunflower Garden Program is still harvesting vegetables weekly for delivery to our houses and Assistants. Having a greenhouse donated by the Eyking family certainly helps. Ours is home to broccoli, spinach, kale, tatsoi, bok choy, lettuce, celery, parsley and green onions. We are also still digging up mulched carrots in our outdoor gardens. We have also gotten into microgreens whic...h we grow in the Lodge. We have pea shoots and are just starting to try popcorn and buckwheat. Microgreens are relatively easy to grow and make a fresh addition to any meal. Are you still harvesting from your garden or greenhouse? Do you sprout or grow microgreens? We'd love to hear what you are up to. Tips and tricks are always welcome. Happy winter gardening! #chooselocal #meaningfulwork #larchelife #community

Coralee MacDougall, a Community Member of our community, was accepted to the Measures of Absence show opening this weekend at the Inverness County Centre for the Arts. Among the 11 artists included in the show you may read Coralee's bio as follows: "Coralee MacDougall is a keen and observant listener whose wry smile is almost always hinted on her face, as she waits for the next joke to tumble into her mind and out to those around her. She works in paint (with or without wax ...resist) and felt at The Angel’s Loft, an art studio program for people with intellectual disabilities at L’Arche Cape Breton. Coralee has limited vision and her work is nonrepresentational. However, she is exceedingly thoughtful about her subjects, her colour choices, and how she incorporates her feelings and hopes into her work." We are proud of the hard work and creativity you put into your work, Coralee! Congratulations! Dear friends, I am writing to let you know that a newly arrived L’Arche Assistant (staff member) from another part of Canada tested positive for COVID-19. The individual, who has no symptoms, has been in isolation since arriving, and has followed all Public Health protocols. We have kept in continuous contact with Public Health officials, who have assured us we are taking all the appropriate and necessary steps to manage this isolated situation. Everyone who has potentially ...been exposed has been tested, and the results came back negative. Because L’Arche communities serve a vulnerable population, we have had stringent precautions in place since last February to prevent exposure to COVID-19. We are grateful that these precautions continue to protect our community, as this event demonstrates. We thank everyone for the concern and support you have shown to our community members, and we thank all Nova Scotians for doing so much to keep case numbers low across our province. Sincerely, Mukthar Limpao Community Leader and Executive Director L’Arche Cape Breton
