Our clients kids have been intrigued by the renovation process from the day we stopped by for a quote. We have been trying to included in the process. Takes a little bit of our time but goes a long way with the kids as it’s something they will never forget. Xavier is 4 years old. We installed 2 beams on this project for our client in Burlington. The first beam was a W8x31 @ 19’. The second beam was a 9 3ply Flitch Beam with a 3/4 steel plate @ 16’. The client was complaining about deflection on his Second floor. Turns out the builder spanned the 2x8 floor joists 15’... every joist was sistered with 2x10s to strengthen and minimize the deflection. We had to do something a little different on this project. If you flip to the last 3 pictures in this ...post you will see the steel box we had to create. The engineer wanted to ensure the new pointload from our steel beam above by-passed the existing wood beam in the basement and directly to a new Pad Footing we poured. We put 3/4 of styrofoam around each side of the steel box to ensure we kept a gap while welding and to have the entire point load avoided the beam. #structuralframing #structuralengineering #loadbearingwall #openconcept #larconstructural @ Burlington, Ontario

Wrapped up another Vaulted Ceiling project for a client in Mississauga. We removed the existing ceiling joists and collar ties, and strengthened the ridge and hip beams. This cute side split now has the ‘wow’ factor when you walk inside. Here’s a smaller project, no big steel beams this time. However, the end result is still great. We installed 2 Flush LVL Beams and a Flush 2x10 Beam for our client in Markham. If you aren’t a fan of complete open concept; you can still improve your layout, the flow between rooms and make your house feel larger by widening existing openings and installing flush beams. This project is a perfect example of that.
