How thick does ice have to be to skate on? Go ice fishing on? Before you go out, review this ice thickness chart to determine if it’s safe! Walking/skating on a retention pond is never safe. No matter the temperature or the appearance of the ice, conditions on retention ponds change quickly. Water from snow melt drains into retention ponds, and is often mixed with road salt, so the ice thins quickly.

Home fires occur more in the winter months than any other time of the year. Keep your family safe and warm this winter season. Have a three-foot kid-free zone around open fires and space heaters Never use your oven to heat your home Be sure all furnace controls and emergency shutoffs are in proper working condition Leave furnace repairs to qualified professionals

LaSalle Fire Service reminds us to practice #FireSafety by following these simple rules to prevent a cooking fires. Always stay in the kitchen while cooking. Turn off the stove when unattended.... Keep anything that burns utensils, dishcloths, paper towels, and pot holder a safe distance from the stove. Avoid loose-fitting clothing. They can come into contact with stove burners and catch fire. Wear tight sleeves and roll them up when cooking.

Carbon Monoxide (CO) is known as ‘The Silent Killer’, because you can’t see it, taste it or smell it. The only way to detect the presence of the deadly gas is to install a carbon monoxide alarm.

Windsor & Essex County is now in the Grey-Lockdown Level of the COVID-19 Response Framework. The safe way to spend the #holidays this year is by only celebrating in person with the people you live with and virtually with everyone else. People who live alone may have exclusive close contact with one additional household. The leading cause of cooking fires is unattended cooking. Keep anything that can catch fire well away from the stove burners. For more fire safety messages and videos, visit: http://ow.ly/PiYk50BEZhH #LivingLaSalle #FirePrevention #keepsafe #FireSafety
