After travelling for 3,583 miles, "Liam the Leprechaun" has finally arrived from Dublin, Ireland. He bumped into Waldo the Turkey along his way and thought it was bizarre that a vulture was roaming the streets in Aldershot. He quickly ran past Waldo and made his way through our two blue front doors. He has comfortably settled in and enjoys snacks in the Bistro in the late hour. We've started a Scavenger Hunt and asked our residents to try and find Liam daily leading up to St. Patrick's Day. Once our residents locate our little leprechaun, they enter their name on a ballot and enter it into our draw. We will reward 1 lucky winner on March 17th! The more ballots entered, the greater the chance of winning.

Our fellow resident, Mr. McMullen celebrated his 64th Wedding Anniversary this past weekend. We captured this special moment as he and his wife exchanged memories and jokes over their 6 decades together. Our priority is the safety and well-being of our residents. We made sure that Mr. McMullen had the opportunity to safely visit with his wife in the comfort of our library. Our recreation staff were happy to assist in setting up their virtual date! At LaSalle, we love #makingordinaryextraordinary - and we hope to inspire other communities to do the same! We are now nominating our sister property Pearl & Pine to share how they make the ordinary into extraordinary!

November is Fall Prevention Month Did you know that falls are the #1 cause of injury-related hospitalizations among Canadian seniors? Most of these injuries are preventable. Here are some simple tips for preventing falls: Remove loose rugs or secure them in place with rubber or slip-resistant backing. ... Ensure sufficient lighting to clearly see all stairs, landings and paths, especially at night. Install handrails on both sides of all steps and stairways. Declutter your home and remove potential obstacles from all walkways and hallways. Check all prescription medications for possible side effects like dizziness, drowsiness, fluctuations in blood pressure, loss of coordination or balance. Wear well-fitting footwear at all times (e.g. snug fit, correct length, enough room for insoles, etc. Keep floors clear of clutter and loose carpeting. See more

LaSalle Park Retirement Community was one of the proud sponsors of the annual Tree Lighting hosted by the Aldershot BIA. This year’s event featured a drive-through food drive in support of the Compassion Society, a local charity that provides food and clothing free of charge to neighbours in need. Dan, the driver of the LaSalle shuttle bus helped Santa and Mrs. Claus load donations onto the bus. We nominate our sister property Pearl & Pine Retirement Residence to change the ordinary into extraordinary! #makingordinaryextraordinary

Here is Part 2 of our Q&A with our Maitre D', Lorraine Elaydo 1. What is your name & how long have you worked at LaSalle Park? My name is Lorraine and I've been with LaSalle for over 6 years. 2. What do you enjoy most about working at LaSalle? There is no dull moment at LaSalle. I find humour in all situations and try to make the best of it. Everyone can find something to laugh about, and it's important to me to not just work but have fun. It's a fun place to be in.... 3. Are you married and/or do you have any children? I have been married for 18 years as of this September. I have three beautiful children. 15, 14, and 13. All of my children are a year apart and all born in February. Two of my children, the youngest and eldest share the same birthday! 4. Have you travelled? If so, where and which place is your favourite? We don't travel much but we make the most of our time together by camping, the cottage, and beaches. I'd like to travel back home to the Philippines someday, it's been over 20 years since I've been there. 5. What is your favourite Holiday and why? Christmas. We always have a big celebration, especially on Christmas Eve. The best part for us is the joy our children have when opening their gifts. 6. What do you like to do for fun? What is your favourite meal of the day? I can usually skip breakfast, and skip lunch altogether. I'd say Dinner. Especially with my family. 8. What does customer service mean to you in the dining room? It means giving it your all and working hard. I will always give 120%. But it's more than just serving. I am always glad to be able to chat with our residents, and listen to them sharing with me stories of their life. 9. What is your favourite memory at LaSalle? I think the Pandemic has brought us closer together than ever. I saw everyone working their hardest while making the best of the situation. 10. Can you share with us what you think is the most commonly ordered lunch menu item or the dessert? Cream of Tomato Soup! And the dessert would be a pie, either Strawberry or Apple. Can't forget that scoop of ice cream either!

Our garden is now operating at maximum capacity and everything is beginning to be harvested! There are 6 varieties of edible flowers blooming and we currently have enough herbs to last us the entire summer. We use these every day in almost every dish we create. Our Executive Chef picked 42 tomatoes today from 5 different heirloom varieties and there are tons of green tomatoes which will be changing colour within the next few days. The currant plant produced enough currants to use in a dessert dish for a whole meal service as well. The four kale plants produced enough Kale to create 2 side items to feed the entire building with a kale salad for lunch and sautéed kale for dinner. Some plants will be removed soon to replant more kale and add beans, Brussels sprouts and beets.
