The Condominium Authority Tribunal (CAT) released a new decision regarding visitor parking and the enforcement of a condo corporation policies. The first issue that CAT reviewed was whether an owner's guest was permitted to park in visitor parking based on the frequency of visits. The Declaration provided that visitor parking was restricted to only guests or invitees.
There is no doubt that having effective property management not only ensures present enjoyment of property but preserves its future value. So what happens when a condominium gets to a certain state where property management refuses to manage? Unfortunately, one 44-unit condominium corporation in Saskatchewan is dealing with this very unusual situation.
As many of you may be aware, the Condominium Authority Tribunal (CAT) expanded its jurisdiction on October 1, 2020. Part of its expansion includes dealing with disputes related to pets. There are instances in which a condominium corporation may have to deal with a resident who decides to bring a pet into a no-pet building or a pet that weighs in excess of the permitted weight restrictions in a
Many of us anticipated that we would soon hear about amendments to the Condominium Act to remove the requirements for Virtual Meeting and Electronic Voting By-laws and for obtaining owner consents to receive electronic notices. We were eagerly awaiting the announcement before the end of the May 31, 2021 deadline.

Sometimes inspections are required to be conducted in low-traffic common areas such as roofs, boiler rooms and other mechanical rooms.
The Government of Ontario is stepping in to shield certain entities from civil liability arising from COVID-19. On November 20, 2020, the province passed the Supporting Ontario's Recovery and Municipal Elections Act, 2020 (the "Act"). The legislation offers liability protection to any legal entity or person that makes a good faith effort to act in accordance with public health guidelines
An interesting decision was released March 19, 2021, involving two condo owners who refused to wear masks in their condo due to "medical reasons". In Halton Condominium Corporation No. 77 v. Mitrovic, although the corporation was successful in obtaining a compliance order against the owners and a permanent injunction mandating those owners to wear a mask, the Court carved out an exception for
Where allowed by law, condo corporations looking for a quick way to earn revenue, shore up the corporation’s reserve fund and help defray monthly fees for residents should think twice about purchasing Bitcoin cryptocurrencies. A 32-unit Regina, Saskatchewan-based condominium corporation recently did just that. The board of Thornton Place Condominium Corporation made a $25,000 purchase, or 0.4

CAI Canada Certification for Virtual Chairs When: Two sessions on Thursdays 10-11:30 a.m. March 11 and March 25 Virtual meetings are now an everyday occurrence for condominium corporations and condominium management firms. While in-person meetings are currently on pause, this is an excellent opportunity to learn the fine distinction between chairing an in-person meeting versus a virtual meeting.
A Mississauga condo has reported five cases of the coronavirus South African variant. Public health attended onsite on Monday to conduct voluntary individual testing of the close to 1,000 residents by going door to door within the highrise property. This type of outside involvement by public health is something that we have not seen to date.

In a story that sounds a little far-fetched, an elderly woman is being sued by her condominium association in Tampa, Florida for feeding a feral cat. Don’t be cruel. Meow. Cleo is hungry! In a case released September 10, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice upheld a corporation's COVID-19 related policy prohibiting most in-suite renovations and repairs. The case provides some guidance for corporations who are struggling to navigate the challenges associated with COVID-19, and confirms that a corporation can indeed implement policies to restrict certain activities due to the risks associated with the pandemic.
