That means that even if you want to invest in solar without the 20% SaskPower rebate, you can’t. Off grid systems can still be done.

I’ve been hearing talk from friends and customers who know people that have had solar installed by other companies. Last Mountain Electric spent 3 days near Glenside Sk. this week to install this 25.6KW seasonally adjustable solar array. After some long work days and a positive Saskpower inspection, this customer is no longer subjected to usage charges for electricity! The system is customized to offset their usage. Once their net meter gets installed, they will only pay the basic monthly Saskpower charge and will bank any excess power production generated (as credits to be used in lower p...roduction months) for 3 years. A great start to this past week with 2 solar arrays installed. A 5.2KW in Silton near Saskatchewan Beach and a 9.8KW on a shop roof south of Bulyea. 2 new solar customers saying goodbye to Saskpower usage charges. About a year ago Christine and I decided to look at an alternative to our $650+ per month averaged power bill. We do not have natural gas in our yard and everyt...hing is electric heat. We looked at wind power but too expensive and things that turn, wear out, fast. We investigated solar as our option. I talked with 4 solar companies, 1 was a scam type company and two were from Saskatoon area (Both friendly and informative) and one was a local company who had done a lot of quality electrical work at our farm previously. After gathering information from the solar companies and talking with Saskpower we decided to go forward with solar power. We went with our local contractors. Last Mountain Electric for the solar system and Heat It and Bead It for our aluminium ground mount system. Why go local? Several reasons 1) quality work that is guaranteed for as long as they live and work in our area and beyond that I am sure. 2) competitive prices- you are very unlikely to find the same quality of product and workmanship from an out of area contractor. 3) sound advice- neither of these companies will steer you wrong as they are part of our community and plan on living here for a long time. Their reputation means everything to them. After less than 4 months of net metering we have a power bill that is the minimum! We produced a lot more than we used and are building credits to store for our peak use in winter. No doubt in our mind the investment was worth it. The latest solar addition to the LME shop. Waiting for inspection. This is more of a winter position for the panels, but with some spare time this spring we put it up to be ready for next winter. Today we started our first customer solar system this year, with many more already lined up for the summer. With that, we wanted to share a few points about solar systems people may not be aware of. -If the solar is purchased for a farm or business you may qualify for a federal tax incentive to lower your overall costs and shorten your payback period even further! -The new Saskpower rebate is $0.61 per DC watt installed that is returned directly to the customer. -The avera...ge payback for a system with LME is 7 years 9 months. -LME has supplied and installed systems with paybacks as short as 6 years! As some of you know, spring is the optimal time of year to produce on a solar array, and you get to carry your overproduction into the fall as credits to be used in the winter.
