Update for 2021 With vaccines slowly becoming available the situation is improving but it looks like not much will change for the spring shearing season. I consulted with clients who are front-line medical staff at hospitals here in Canada last spring and understood the need for shearing both for animal husbandry reasons and by extension security of the food supply. ... Their recommendations were for me to... Enforce a strict "ZERO CONTACT shearing policy. This means physical distancing (10 feet) and mask-wearing. I sheared with a mask all last year and found it was really not that difficult. If wearing a mask is an issue, no worries, just keep your distance. Each situation will be different and I will adapt the setup to whatever needs to be done. I bring all my own soap and hand sanitizer. You will receive an invoice and payment by e-transfer or PayPal is preferred but cash or cheque is ok. I expect complete openness and transparency with regard to any symptoms of COVID-19 so that shearing can be rescheduled. This goes both ways. If you or I have any flu-like symptoms the appointment or day can be rescheduled. This continues to be an unprecedented situation. I care for the health and safety of everyone and will do my best to make sure your animals will be taken care of. I enjoy my annual visit with my long term clients as well as meeting new ones. Let's all do our part to stay safe and get past this current situation. Thank you for continuing to understand.

I have consulted with clients who are front line medical staff at hospitals here in Canada. They understand the need for shearing both for animal husbandry reasons and by extension security of the food supply. Their recommendations were for me to...... 1. Enforce a strict "ZERO CONTACT shearing policy. The animals are penned up and I will do all the work (catching, shearing, release or return to pen, wool handling and cleanup) . Each situation will be different and I will adapt to whatever needs to be done. 2. I bring all my own soap and hand sanitizer. 3. I leave an invoice and payment by e-transfer , paypal or mail a cheque only (no cash) 4. I expect complete openness and transparency with regard to any symptoms of COVID-19 so that shearing can be rescheduled. This goes both ways. Power cut so I got to try my new small flock, rechargeable battery "Handypiece" on a few while John went to get a generator.
