Happy feast of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary! Be sure to celebrate today. "O God, You will that, at the message of an angel, Your Word should take flesh in the womb of the Blessed Virgin Mary; grant to Your suppliant people, that we, who believe her to be truly the Mother of God, may be helped by her intercession with You."

May you have a blessed and joyful Solemnity of St. Joseph - especially in this year of St. Joseph! "O Blessed Joseph... patron of Canada our native land and of this illustrious province, preserve us who are pilgrims in this valley of tears that we may all reach our celestial Fatherland." --From the acclamations solemnly chanted at the end of the first Canadian plenary Council in 1909.--

In saying this Jesus made St. Peter the head of the entire community of believers and placed the spiritual guidance of the faithful in St. Peter’s hands. The earliest mention of this feast dates back to AD 311. Originally, this feast commemorated "St. Peter's chair in Antioch" - which was Peter's first See, in Syria, before he traveled to Rome.

Today, our beloved Pope Benedict XVI has reached an important milestone - he has become the longest living pope surpassing Pope Leo XIII, who died on the 20 Jul...y 1903 at the age of 93 years, 4 months and 4 days. Let us pray for him in a special way today. Benedict is surely praying for the Church and for the world for as he himself said to the elderly he visited on the 12 November 2012: "The prayers of the elderly can protect the world, helping it, perhaps more effectively than collective anxiety. Today I would like to entrust to your prayers the good of the Church and peace in the world. The Pope loves you and relies on all of you! May you feel beloved by God and know how to bring a ray of God’s love to this society of ours, often so individualistic and so efficiency-oriented. And God will always be with you and with all those who support you with their affection and their help." Ad multos annos, Benedict!
