My responses are a little slow these days and this is whyMy family and I are on an eagerly anticipated holiday out in beautiful British Columbia. Aside from wanting to disconnect from the outside world as much as we can, our cell service and wifi are a little spotty. I promise responses will get a little faster once we’re back in Manitoba

Making fun of, or decrying, or trash talking, what another woman wants for when she becomes a mother is a shitty way to be a human being. We can't know the myriad of reasons, thoughts, opinions, hopes, fears, research, medical conditions, medical situations, and endless other variables that go into each family's birth. And so, we do not get to have opinions about them. We do not get to judge them.

A friend shared this and now I am having trouble seeing for some reason Did they mention that there’s a moment when your baby enters the world and you leave your body and touch the heavens and become the light of a million galaxies?

Hello, strangers! It has been far too long since I’ve popped in to say hi and what better way is there to break the silence than to bring up pelvic floor health!? So often I hear mothers bring up the issue of urinary incontinence after having a baby. Whether it’s from laughing, sneezing, running or any other number of everyday activities, too many of us are concerned about having an accident and are missing out on life. I am here to tell you that while this is a common compla...int, it does not have to be your new normal and you do not need to just get used to it as is often the advice I’ve heard given. The joke goes that it is one of the many joys of motherhood and I often cringe when I hear people say that as it does not need to be this way. We can both give birth AND have a healthy, functioning pelvic floor. Pelvic floor physio therapy is a wonderful tool we have available to us and can help with incontinence and a variety of other issues such as pain during intercourse, generalized pelvic pain, pelvic organ prolapse, and low back pain, among others. Treatment can happen both during your pregnancy and/or after delivery (even many many years after delivery...it’s really never too late to get help with this!). If you would like a recommendation for a local physiotherapist who is highly trained and experienced in pelvic floor health, someone who makes you feel at ease and genuinely cares about your progress, send me a message and I will give you the contact info for someone who has helped not only many people I personally know, but has helped me as well. A strong pelvic floor is a happy pelvic floor. See more
