Silver linings. Isolation self-portrait, February 2021. One of the only things that has been open during this stay at home order is the city run skating rinks. Almost every weekday morning I join a handful of regulars for the first skate of the morning. The attendants are so nice, the neighbours will teach you skating skills at safe distances, and it’s become a lovely and unexpected little community to be a part of. A lot of my photos during this year have made me ...look sad. And yes, there’s been sadness. After all, isolation is not a happy topic. I miss you and I’ve lost a lot and I know you have too. But in reality, I have learned a lot, I’ve grown a lot, and I think a lot of people can relate. I’m actually really happy a lot too, and genuinely filled with gratitude and love for this life. Even the hard parts, the long winter months, and the distance between us. The bad things only make us better and stronger. I’ve never ice skated so well in my entire life.
