Did you make a resolution to eat healthier this year? But now the kids are home, you're working, teaching and doing all the things...there's just no time ! So I wanted to share a simple way the you can add healthy habits into your routine without a lot of fuss. Smoothies are definitely one of my favourite ways to kick off the day especially if you’re a busy working mom. We can load these babies up with fruits, veggies, fibre, protein a...nd fats to help keep you feeling fuller longer and that energy up. Best part, they are also meant to be fast and efficient so that you can get the nutrition and energy you need without a lot of extra work. They are also great for kids , so two birds with one stone. One common issue I always hear about when people start dabbling in the smoothie pool, is that they are hungry one or two hours later. Unfortunately, this is usually because we haven’t properly balanced our smoothie ingredients. If you’ve been using OJ or other juices in your smoothies and not adding any protein source, this could be one reason for the hunger and energy crash. After having Evie my sleep had taken a serious hit. Even when she started sleeping through the night, I would wake up randomly though the night, wake to the slightest sound and wake up feeling like I hadn't slept. Then the next day after my crappy sleep, I felt like a bear. I was irritable, had no energy, felt exhausted all day and was craving all the carbs. Which then translated into me feeling like a bad mom. Not sleeping is not good! It effects your energy, mood, imm...une system, hormones and cravings. And continuous nights of not sleeping well...will catch up with you! My postpartum body was so confused as to when I was suppose to be asleep vs. when I was suppose to be awake. My circadian rhythm was messed up! So I had to make a few changes and tweaks to my sleep routine, added in some natural sleep supports to help improve my circadian rhythm and focused on making sleep a priority. I'm happy to say that things have much improved and it really made me realize how important my sleep was to me feeling like a good mom; energized, present and ready to take on the day. I was speaking with a mama yesterday and this is a sentence I hear all too often: "My energy just crashes in the afternoon and this is when things go off the rails" She was talking about that fact that when her energy dips in the afternoon she starts reaching for a quick pick me up. Maybe a cookie, granola bar or just finishes off some crackers and cheese off her kids plates. ... Then she feels bad for eating all the 'things' because she's trying to loose that "mom weight" or post baby weight and she's mad at herself for not having the willpower to stop the snack cravings. But here's the thing, there's more at play here than just willpower. We need to take a deeper dive into her health and figure out the WHY behind her snacking and low energy.
