Today's A Mighty Girl Community Pick: "Sally Sore Loser" by Frank Sileo. Sally loves to win, whether she's racing to be first out the door for recess or hogging... the ball in every game in an effort to win. But when Sally DOESN'T win, her temper explodes, and it's not long before her classmates have nicknamed her 'Sally Sore Loser.' Fortunately, her teacher and her mother are there to help teach her the rules for being a good winner and a good loser. She learns about what it means to be a good teammate, the difference between trying her best and showing off, and how to keep her mind on the most important part of a game: having fun! With cartoon-like watercolor illustrations and a note for parents and educators about the importance of adults modeling appropriate behavior, this entertaining and educational picture book is perfect for teaching kids about the importance of good sportsmanship and how to win and lose gracefully. Highly recommended for ages 4 to 8. "Sally Sore Loser" is available at https://www.amightygirl.com/sally-sore-loser For another fun picture book about the importance of good sportsmanship, we recommend "Lucia Lacorte, Poor Sport", for ages 4 to 8 at https://www.amightygirl.com/lucia-lacorte-poor-sport Soccer star Mia Hamm wrote about her experiences learning to lose gracefully and focus on the fun of the game in her picture book, "Winners Never Quit" for ages 4 to 7 at https://www.amightygirl.com/winners-never-quit For older kids who struggle with anger in response to losing or other challenges, we highly recommend the exceptional guide "What to Do When Your Temper Flares" for ages 6 to 12 at https://www.amightygirl.com/when-your-temper-flares There is also an excellent book to help kids understand that failure is a normal part of success: "Sometimes You Win Sometimes You Learn for Kids" for ages 4 to 8 (https://www.amightygirl.com/sometimes-you-learn-kids) -- and the version for teens, ages 13 and up, "Sometimes You Win Sometimes You Learn for Teens" (https://www.amightygirl.com/sometimes-you-learn-teens)

Little Free Library Tour - June 6, 2020 Theyre little libraries. The books are free for the taking and they have a big community impact. As reported on March 3...0th in response to COVID-19, and to ensure the health and safety of our community, the London community generally and all our volunteers, the Old South Community Organization (OSCO) made the tough but prudent decision to cancel the annual Gathering On The Green. Although the Gathering On The Green, a centerpiece celebration for our community and the City of London for 37 years, wont bring us together this summer, OSCO is happy to invite you to enjoy our Little Free Library Tour on Saturday June 6th, 2020 from 10am to 2pm. Its your invitation to explore your community, ride your bike, walk your dog, walk or jog and maybe win a neat prize thanks to Shayne & Monica of BIG BIKE GIVEAWAY. Heres how the Tour works. Pick up a free passport at the OSCO Membership tent at the corner of Wortley and Elmwood, and then tour all nine (9) Little Libraries in Old South/Wortley Village. If you see a book youd like, take it home. If youve read a book you think others will enjoy, bring it with you and leave it at one of the Little Libraries. While you navigate the tour in a socially distant and responsible manner, have your passport stamped to enter our draw for great prizes. At the end of your tour please deposit your passport in the box at the OSCO Membership tent, corner of Wortley and Elmwood. Thats it! Get outside, walk or ride your bike, explore and wave at your friends and neighbours. And we encourage you to please drop off some canned goods at the libraries youve visited as a donation to the London Food Bank. The Old South Community Organization (OSCO) has represented the common interests of Old South London since 1975. As a non-profit, member-run volunteer organization we are dedicated to protecting and improving the quality of life in our community and city. And we aim to connect our community and city.
