Good Morning Folks! We are talking about Human Connection this fine day. It's a part of our wellbeing that we've taken for granted for some time now, and Covid has been a reminder of just how important it really is! See we are hardwired to connect with one another. We need it like we need sleep, food and air. It is in our DNA to be precise. Children today are being brought up in a world that has drastically altered the way in which we connect and the amount of time we spend o...n true connection with one another. We as adults must be more diligent than ever in making sure we are role modeling, create opportunity, and step into moments of pure human connection with the children in our care. Here's where you can start!

When you have a neurotypical child, you feel reasonably assured that class participation and decent study habits will result in good grades. These kids have close friends. They get invited to participate in social things like dances and weekend gatherings. They make the teams, auditioned organisations and clubs. But when you have a child with certain differences, this is often not the case. Learning may take longer, both academically and socially. Despite their tremendous eff...orts, results are often a fraction of their peers and social acceptance is fleeting, setting them up for painful comparisons and bitter frustration. Instead of a fun and fulfilling experience, school can become a breeding ground for depression and anxiety, and assignments a battle ground at home. It is exhausting for parent and child alike. This is the week of SPED (Special Education), Autism, Dyslexia, and ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) awareness. For all the children who struggle every day to succeed in a world that does not recognize their gifts and talents, and for those who are walking beside them, please let this be a gentle reminder to be kind and accepting of ALL people. Recognize that the "playing field" is not always a level surface. Children who learn differently are not weird. They are merely gifted in ways that our society does not value enough. Yet they want what everyone else wants: To be accepted!! If you choose, please copy and paste this in honor of all children who are deemed "different". Our world would be far less beautiful without them.

Oh LOVE! It's a beautiful thing, I'd argue it's the most powerful force within us. How can we show and guide with love? Here's where you can start. ... Be fully present as often as possible during the moments you are with a child. Listen to what they are saying, their thoughts and perspective matters. Speak to them with the respect you ask of them when speaking to you or others. Hold space and acceptance during those moments of big emotion, fear, or overwhelm. Accept them just as they are. They are whole just as they are. Children are always watching and listening, be conscious of how you show up in the world. Love is kind, love is compassionate, love is unconditional. Now more than ever we need to prioritize the development of love.
