Business tip: You can't fix what you don't measure. If you never keep score, how do you know if you are improving or getting worse? There is a reason they keep stats on professional athletes. What should you measure you ask? How much you spend on marketing each month. How many leads or new customers come in as a result of your marketing. What marketing source did the lead come from. What was the conversion rate? How many transactions happened that day, week, month quarter? What were the average dollar sales of all those transactions? Let me ask you this? What would you learn from this and what could be a course of action from your learnings?

Business tip: "Begin with the end in mind." Stephen Covey. Do you want to start a business that consumes your entire life and you are paid a pittance for doing it? Or are you starting a business to create an amazing lifestyle for you and your family. The latter I hope. You might be chuckling. If you don't have a clear vision you are much more likely to create more of what you have because your mind keeps bringing the familiar past into an unfamiliar future.

Business tip: What products or services can you add that are complementary to your product or service? You can use these to cross-sell to add to the sale. Before doing this remember the most important thing. Love your customer more than you love your product or service. Never and I mean never sell something to someone they don't need or want. This will kill your business over time. It is never about a one-time sale. To build a successful business you need customers either coming back or referring you to others. Marketing is a big expense. Don't waste it on a one-time sale.

Business tip: Don't compete on price. Add more value than your competition and make sure you communicate that to your customer. Competing on price is like a slow death. If you don't know how to start, begin with the question. How can I add more value with little or no extra cost. Come up with a least 10 ideas and then figure which is best.

Business tip. Love your customer more than you love your service or product. If you want exponential growth you need to keep your customers. Get referrals from your customers. You must be their most trusted advisor. I worked with a manufacture who spoke derogatorily about customers. Do you think they felt the love or the disdain. Guess what. These customers didn't trust them, always priced shopped them and gave work to the competition before them. When the economy was hot it didn't matter because sometimes they were the only ones who could get it done but as soon as the economy cooled they were the first to get dropped. LOVE your customers.
