Laurier Archives 13.11.2020

We know that we don't post here often and unfortunately we wish we were doing so now under better circumstances but, with heavy hearts, we are announcing that we have lost our leader and friend. Julia's legacy will live on in our collections and our memories. We are deeply saddened but also in awe of her strength until the very end. https://wlu.ca//laurier-mourns-the-loss-of-beloved-colleag In these undoubtedly strange days, remember what truly matters.

Back by popular demand! The Joan Mitchell Travel Award is back for 2020. The award is designed to offset the travel costs for an established scholar or graduate student to use materials from our collections.... We've recognized five incredible young scholars thus far and we would love to make it an even half dozen! Please share with anyone who may be interested. Applications are due January 31st. We are pleased to announce that the records of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Waterloo are now available to researchers at the Laurier Archives. The records, dating from 1835, are a rich resource of local history and genealogical records that trace the life of the congregation from the early days of Waterloo to a devastating fire that destroyed the original building in 1959, to a merger with St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Church of the Reformation to form Trillium Lutheran Church. The St. John’s Lutheran Church collection continues to grow as we work with our friends at Trillium Lutheran Church. Check back often for updates to the finding aid! https://libarchives.wlu.ca//new-st-johns-lutheran-church-w

The records of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Kitchener, Ontario are now available to researcher at the Laurier Archives! The collection is a trove of information, including church records, women’s groups, Luther League, photographs and parish records. St. Mark’s was organized in 1912 as First English Lutheran Church, and for more than 100 years it was an important part of the local community. In 2018 St. Mark’s joined with St. John’s Lutheran Church of Waterloo and Reformatio...n Lutheran Church of Kitchener to form Trillium Lutheran Church. We are pleased to have the collection here at the Laurier Archives! Special thanks to Maya, one of our summer student assistants, for her work on this project. https://libarchives.wlu.ca//new-st-marks-lutheran-church-k
