The International Trans Day of Visibility is an annual event occurring on March 31st dedicated to celebrating Trans people and raising awareness of discrimination faced by transgender people worldwide. (ccgsd-ccdgs.org) Today (and every day), we wish to show our support to the Trans community and celebrate all the diversity under the trans umbrella. Trans peoples deserve to be visible, celebrated, protected, respected and loved. We will continue to work to address transpho...bia in all of its forms, including how it is internalized and enacted in our everyday ways of thinking and being. #TransLiberation for All! Check out the @wilfridlaurieruni stories on instagram for today’s take-over by Consent is Golden Follow Laurier Brantford Queer Sphere for 2SLGBTQ+ student organizing on campus. And join us at the Caring for Our Trans Selves Event Tonight at 7 pm. Registration link below. .. Caring for Our Trans Selves March 31st, 7pm EST Mainstream conversations on wellness don’t often account for the complexity of trans experiences. It can be difficult to engage in the same type of activities as our cis-peers. Mental health care providers often don’t have adequate knowledge of supporting trans folks and/or they are unable to focus on anything but our trans identity. Accessing other community services or finding supportive places to rest and recharge can come with challenges and very valid fears of transphobia. Even those closest to us in our lives may not be able to truly understand what we are navigating. In this workshop we will have an open conversation about strategies to provide care for ourselves and our trans peers. We will focus on concepts such as setting boundaries, understanding our limits, ways to offer and receive support, allowing space for the beautiful breadth of trans identities and more. This workshop is brought to you for free through partnership between Laurier's Office of Dispute Resolution and Sexual Violence Support (Consent is Golden), Wellness Education and Centre for Student Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. Any questions? email [email protected] About the Facilitator: TK (they/he) is a trans non-binary person who loves to chat about queer and trans rights, needs and supports. They are currently the Executive Director for SHORE Centre, a reproductive rights and sexual health non-profit. TK has previously worked as the Public Education Manager for the Sexual Assault Support Centre of Waterloo Region, a Sexual Health Educator for SHORE Centre and as a facilitator for OK2BME running social support groups for queer youth. They are particularly interested in developing and supporting trans inclusive and celebratory services, having dialogue around stereotypes of trans experiences, addressing sexual and gender-based violence and engaging in conversation around bodies and fatphobia in queer and trans spaces. https://us02web.zoom.us//tZIpce2gqjMtHNd-T6Ha1zZYRWMcW-Qwq

Trigger Warning: Violence Against the Asian Community We would like to express our condolences to the loved ones and those who have been impacted by the recent anti-Asian hate crime. The perpetrator targeted Asian run spas and took multiple Asian-American and Pacific Islander women's lives. Anti-Asian racism in North America has a long legacy, and a spectrum of interpersonal and structural violence against the Asian community continues to be a reality. In Canada, we have see...n a rise in anti-Asian hate crimes since the COVID-19 pandemic began. These experiences have been exasperated by the media's inaccurate reporting and the lack of public intervention towards safety and justice for Asian communities. We recognize the Asian diaspora in Canada is incredibly diverse and wish to honour the intersections of their lived experiences. We also realize how some Asian peoples may be targeted based on parts of their identity, such as their age or gender. Therefore, our work must be to end anti-Asian racism, as well as misogyny, ageism and other forms of oppression that are simultaneously being enacted. Please know that CSEDI seeks to work in solidarity with our Asian family at Laurier and beyond. We are planning a support space for those impacted and will share more information shortly. Reach out to [email protected] for support, resources or collaborations on anti-racism programming. We are here for you.
