There is so much character in this room! But combined with having wierd roofing dreams, the real character was also being lost with the exposed cieling. Now, the owner can vacation here a little more rested and how he invisioned the room to be!

More work completed at this summer cottage. Closing in the ceilings so the owners no longer have to look at roofing penetrations and wires! It may not keep the insects out, but it is certainly nicer to wake up too!!

This week I finished installing wood soffits on Martin's cottage. He wanted to be able to look out on the water without the distraction of the rafters and roofing components. The choice of a V groove wood was an excellent one The transition from being inside to looking at the soffits to viewing water is seamless! Huge thank you to Martin for helping with stain and my hubby for excellent cuts Also, the the blue heron that reminded me to take a second and enjoy Next, I will be working on getting a cieling up on the inside of the cottage!

House update! An old ugly stair runner, peeling wallpaper, unfinished stained railing... and well you get it! To: New carpet, floor paint, faux brick walls (my absolute favorite project so far), wall paint and WE HAVE A CLOSET! ... In our house, "X" marks the demolition areas. A few things to fix up and Donovan still doesn't have a door but...baby steps

1920's Vanity Desk has been given a treatment! The original brass handles were given a deep cleaning to help show off their beauty. The vanity now dotes a lovely charcoal grey to match the bedroom scheme.

Hey..before you throw out that old looking light fixture, try to reimagine it! It's obviously outdated with its floral bulb covers, brown scheme and rattan blades. For $30 and some effort, I got a whole new fan! ... All I did was turn off the breaker and unmount the fan from the ceiling. I unscrewed all screws from the blades to the fan. Gave the entire thing a good cleaning in prep for paint. I used a spay paint specifically for metal bonding. I was also using this paint for my floor registers! Give your fixture even and light coats until you get the desired look. Majority of fan blades are reversible and may have a slight different colour or look. I flipped the blades and put it back together, opting to update the floral bulb covers!

First few photos are the first weekend we got the keys...we may have been a little excited about ripping things apart before thinking about taking before photos. Halting demo to snap a few and onward! Removing the plaster was certainly a chore....so was drywalling since things aren't exactly square. Removal of the chimney and old window. Painted floor, painted walls, updated lighting and a new window!

Full disclosure...at one point I thought "what the hell were we thinking" After ripping up 4 layers of various types of flooring, we hoped and attempted to salvage the original floor boards. They were in such bad shape that we bit the bullet and decided to lay vinyl. Tip: if you have paneling...you CAN make it look like drywall. I mudded all joints and groves in the dining room, living room and "terrarium". Painted and viola!... Also..keep your eye on that old ceiling fan... We may not have a ceiling but darn it we have a tree!!

Warning: Crazy transformation ahead! From miss matached wall covers, brown, brown and more brown, to pieced together everything.. Yes..there is also tuck tape on the windows because of the gaps between the frame and glass panes (it's very handy to have a husband in construction haha) I made a new stair railing, using materials I had on hand(with exception the the black balusters). We installed drywall, new windows, new door, loads of paint, painted the floor and added new t...rim. My awesome hubby rebuilt the access hatch() AND we now have HEAT in our new home office/mud room!! We still have some things to finish up: organizing, finish some trim, paint the trim then some decorating!

It hasn't quite been 2 months since we purchased our house...and we haven't even lived here for an entire month yet...but we have accomplished sooo much already! We upgraded the heat system to propane and there was no heat/duct work to the second floor. In the floors were the old heat risers. They are so very cool. It is really important to us to try and keep as much character as we can. Thankfully, we were able to have custom ducts made to fit the original risers and use th...em as the floor registers upstairs! To be budget friendly, we also opted for tongue and groove for our 3 duct chases on the main floor. To be honest, we also have paneling on the main floor so drywall to paneling...not ideal. I also wasn't sure how beaded T&G was going to look and at first was very apprehensive about it. In the end I am glad we went with it and super pleased with how they turned out!

1st photo is what the railing guard looked like in our new mud room/office. I can't even explain what was going on here...a lot of random wood bits, putty and just no's. While it was funtional, it needed serious attention! 2nd photo is the new railing I'm working on. I love the way it's turning out! Can't wait for it to be complete and put on the finishing touches!

When this sign came to me, it was barely legiable. You couldn't read what it said and could see the slight outline of the loon. This sign is 25 years old and was a gift from my clients son. Its charished, loved...and weathered. The 1st image, I had already started the cleaning process, but the sign was covered in white flakey residue, showing its age. It has been REVIVED! (Mind the glare from the sun) *note: I did not and will not paint over artists work*

In case you were wondering...it's not just slapping paint or stain on a piece of furniture and calling it done. Depending on what you want your finished product to actually look like and be maintained as, there is a lot of elbow grease. Stripping, sanding, heavy cleaning, staining, cleaning, painting, sanding, cleaning (times process by coats required), then top coat, sanding, top coat (times at least 3) Now you know.
