And introducing our last, but certainly not least panelist, Noella Milne! Noella Milne is a Senior Partner with Borden Ladner Gervais LLP where she practices in the Corporate Real Estate area. She is also the chancellor of George Brown College. Noella is recognized in the 2017 edition of Chamber’s Global The World’s Leading Lawyers for Business, and the Guide to World’s Leading Women in Business Law. Noella is the Recent Past Chair of the Board of UNICEF Canada, a Director... of St. Michael’s Hospital, a Director of the George Brown College Foundation, an Honourary Life Director of the Canadian Club of Toronto and a Member of the Order of Ontario Advisory Council. Noella was appointed to the Order of Ontario and has been honoured by the Women’s Executive Network as one of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women, has received the YWCA Women of Distinction Award, a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Children’s Aid Foundation, the Arbor Award from the University of Toronto, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012 and Canada’s Top 25 RBC Immigrant Award, 2017. Born in Mumbai, India, Noella is the mother of 3 children. She holds an LLB from the University of Toronto.

Introducing our third panelists: the Honourable Charlene Theodore! A graduate of the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University, Ms. Theodore is a lawyer with a background in public policy and government relations. She started her career with the African Canadian Legal Clinic, advocating against hate crimes and racism before UN, federal and provincial committees. She then went on to represent unions, acting as Counsel to the Ontario Nurses' Association, and then the Ont...ario English Catholic Teachers Association (OECTA). At OECTA, her practice involves providing strategic advice to management and staff on the impact of legislative and regulatory changes in the education sector and providing legal assistance to teachers who are disabled or injured at work. Ms. Theodore also advises on issues related to benefits and pensions. Ms. Theodore is the 1st Black President and was the 2nd Vice President of the Ontario Bar Association (OBA), Past Chair of the OBA Equality Committee, and a member of the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers. Introducing our second panelist: Yi-Wen Hsu! Yi-Wen Hsu is a tax lawyer and business leader who has advised a diverse range of clients on complex domestic and international transactions. Having spent 20 years with leading firms in Toronto and internationally, Yi-Wen is now VP Taxation at Accor Hotels, where she leads a team of professionals responsible for all tax matters in North and Central America. Yi-Wen is also an Adjunct Professor at Osgoode Hall Law School, and holds a BBA (UNB), a JD/LLB (Osgoode Hall) and an LLM (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universitat in Munich, Germany). Yi-Wen lives in Toronto with her family and is a community volunteer and advocate for seniors care and health.

Introducing our first panelist at the women in law panel, happening November 12th: @jordanagoldlist ! Jordana H. Goldlist attended York University on a full academic scholarship in 2000, and graduated in 2004, earning an Honours Degree in Philosophy on the Dean’s List. In 2007, she graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School and became licensed by the Law Society of Upper Canada in 2008. Jordana began her legal career as a Civil Litigator, focused on corporate commercial disputes.... She articled then worked as an associate at Landy Marr Kats LLP but her passion for criminal cases quickly inspired her to look elsewhere. In 2010, Jordana joined Edward H. Royle & Associates to start her career in criminal defence. She was handed her first case on day 3: a client charged with importing half a kilogram of cocaine into Canada. Since then, she has successfully defended clients charged with a range of offences including: Possessing, Trafficking, Producing, and Importing Drugs (cocaine, heroin, fentanyl, meth, marijuana, and GHB); Possessing, Trafficking, Pointing, and Discharging Firearms; Murder, Attempt Murder, Manslaughter; Assault (Aggravated, Domestic, and Sexual); Armed Robbery and Home Invasions; Impaired Driving (including causing death); Break & Enter, Theft, Fraud and various property-related offences. Always a hustler, Jordana built a practise of her own while at the firm and in 2015, she left to open her own business: JHG Criminal Law. Her focus today is on high-risk criminal litigation: people charged with Homicides, the Commercial Drug Trade, and Firearms offences. JHG Criminal Law has its primary office in downtown Toronto, with a satellite office in Salerno Italy and another in Hamilton Ontario scheduled to open in 2020. Jordana is also a Public Speaker (TEDx 2018 and Keep 6ix), Youth Mentor (Covenant House and Ryerson University), and a member of the Law Society of Ontario, Criminal Lawyers Association, Toronto Lawyers Association, and the Canadian Coalition for Firearms Rights. Join Innocence Project Waterloo chapter on October 21st at 6:00 pm in their pre-law panel for an engaging conversation on these questions. President Jazzmine Gabert and VP of External Francesco Del Giudice will be talking about human rights, systemic racism in the criminal justice system, the LSAT, and more! The innocence project is asking ...for a $2 admission fee.
