FROM THE LAB What's the difference between water beading and water sheeting? Whether it's water beading or water sheeting, both terms refer to... water behavior when it comes into contact with a surface. In the case of water beading, the contact angle of the drop will be greater (decreasing the adhesion of the water to the surface) whereas in the case of water sheeting the contact angle will be smaller (making it harder) to the water to adhere to the surface). Obviously, this data will determine the type of behavior of water and therefore, the result visually speaking. Water beading, as its name says, represents the formation of small pearls of water on the surface. With water sheeting, you notice rather than water tends to slip over a surface, kind of like a sheet of water. Good to know: water beading and water sheeting are two behaviors arising from a surface with hydrophobic protection. BENEFITS AND INCONVENIENTS Water beeding + visible proof of bodywork protection. - better chance of creating water spots. More damage to the paint if it's not wiped well. Water sheeting: + lets the surface drier, less water spot since water slides, wiping faster. - less visible proof of protection, visually less impressive
